I can’t end the year without our annual “Top 10” lists. It’s been an unusual year but I’m glad the IKEA hacking community kept doing what it does best — creating and repurposing even while locked down at home. For that, I tip my hat off to you guys.
To kick things off, we look back at some of the best, quick IKEA ideas that don’t necessarily involve a lot of heavy lifting. (Top 10 hacks are on tomorrow!)
These ideas prove that smart thinking can improve, upgrade or turn around any IKEA item.
Let’s revisit the best IKEA ideas of 2020
#1 Custom 3D doors for BESTÅ
Like many other hacking stories, Mare fell in love with this gorgeous credenza from CB2 but couldn’t bring herself to part with the money. Out comes one of the easiest and cheapest way to make custom doors for the BESTÅ. See the hack.
#2 Modern coat rack
#3 Worn outdoor armchair transformed
Fabio bought a SKARPÖ outdoor armchair. After many seasons spent in bad weather the surface was stained and impossible to clean and its appearance, very sad. Painstakingly, Fabio gave it layers of new paint and it’s now ready to serve for many more seasons. See the process.
#4 Glammed up as a credenza
#5 Nest with KYRRE
#6 Drink tea and keep hacking
#7 Best dressed piggy
This well dressed piggy deserves a spot on the list. Grandmama Helen made the KELGRIS pig a waistcoat so her granddaughter can easily spot him when they go to nursery. See the pattern.
#8 Electric toothbrush holder
With 5 people and so many toothbrushes and their stands, Arjette and Anco wanted a way to get them organized and off the sink. The RIMFORSA holder works perfectly. See more.
#9 DRÖNA boxes upgrade
#10 Anytime is coffee time
And one last one for the road. This idea made me laugh — clever, cheap and useful all in one.
Trevor thought there has got to be a product he can put into the shopping trolley to hold a cup of coffee while he grocery shops. Well, there is.
