Hackers Help: Height extension for PAX system?

Pax system

We are looking at buying the PAX system for our master bedroom.  However we have very high ceilings and we want the storage to go all the way to the ceiling.  The Pax is only 236 cm tall so we are thinking of adding extra storage on top of the Pax wardrobe – either by purchasing separate shelving such as LACK or BESTÅ (but depth will not match) or getting extra Pax carcass and putting it on horizontally on top of the wardrobe.  But then we will struggle to get doors to work as they will be upside down!

Has anyone here added storage on top of their Pax wardrobe?  Any advice?

    I’m about to add a top to a 3.5M X 2300 Pax set up with a .7m space on top by using a pine frame and hanging 5 X Lappviken 60 X 64 doors.

If you like to follow your idea of adding a PAX on top horizontally: as hinges you could use something like
    this: http://www.ebay.de/itm/171299935740
    or this: http://www.ebay.de/itm/201371958364

But you would still have the issue that the PAX is 2 meters tall _including_ the base. So if you try to put a 2 m tall Pax horizontally on top of a 2 m wide PAX, one side end would be the base…

The METOD is the better option, as its shape is more cubic.

I have seen the METOD used to extend storage as well. You might also look into KALLAX systems.

I have also seen the METOD cabinets used to extend storage. You might also look at Kallax shelf units. They would fit as well, I believe!

That ikeabysize.com site is nifty; thanks for the link! Also, you can search the ikea site by size, though I’m not sure if you can specify *which* dimension. LOL

You’re welcome Joe! I found that site by accident and it comes in handy when you’re looking for something to fit into a specific space. Good luck with your project!

Instead of adding to the top, try building an open base at the bottom or adding legs. The space created can be used for drawers or baskets.

The METOD kitchen cabinets come 60cm deep and work very well with them. I have seen it displayed in the new ikea Reading store when I was working down there. If need be I can show a picture of this.

Try ikeabysize.com, you might be able to find something to add to the top of the Pax that fits the dimensions.
