How to make a fun chalkboard table from the IKEA Lack coffee table

- IKEA LACK coffee table

- masking tape
- chalkboard paint
- brush
- sandpaper
- colored chalks

I started by sanding the table top with a sander.

Sand it down

I removed the dust with a damp sponge.
I put the masking tape along the edges of the table.

Mask the edges

I gave two or three coats of chalkboard paint. Between each coat, let it dry and smooth gently with sandpaper.

  1. Super idea. In the past I have only used one coat of the chalkboard paint. I will try using multiple coats in the future, for it never seems to come out great. I can usually always feel the wood grain on the surface.

WOW! I would have never thought to do this for the kids, and it is such a wonderful Idea since children do like to draw and mark up tables, I cannot wait to try this for my girls they will love it, thanks so much for this idea, just amazing.
