And are two led kits used or one for both units?

  2. Neil Robinson says:

Quick question before I start drilling, are the led light strip positioned closest to the glass, or away from the glass?

    • vimadalalh says:

The strips are close to the glass, also please use additional tape to hold the LED strip. the glue isn’t strong enough, & now I have to figure out a way to go into & fix one that fell off.

I am going to my local IKEA store here in the UK tomorrow to build this bar, its awesome, thanks. Will save me so much money… Do you need to pre drill the holes for the LED lights prior to assembling the Kallax?

  4. Amanda says:

    Hi!

This looks excellent! Just wondering the metal pieces that are holding the stemware where did you find those? Ikea also?

  5. Arnaud B says:

Where did u buy “suspended glas holder” ?
    Thank U !

    • vimadalalh says:

The “suspended glass holders” are actually not holding the glass.

There are 4 screws that hold the glass the chrome knobs are kitchen drawer handles with their necks sawed off.

I super glued the knobs to the top of the screws.

Make sure you use a rubber washer when you install the screws to avoid cracking the glass if you over tighten them.

i just bought the Kallax today like the gizmodo article says it is a lot lighter. The thick side board are hallow this is how they save wood which is good. i’ve couldnt get the 2×2 yet but planning to get everything done by the end of the month.

Hi we are building the bar. I am just wondering about the capita brackets and how much the came out into the cubbie. We cant seem to get the nut on more than a few threads on the underside. Is that how yours was?

  8. chris says:

I HATE Ikea !! Expedit is discontinued so i wont be able to do this !! Awesome idea by the way

  9. Mary says:

This looks awesome! We’re trying to follow your design, but were wondering what you used for the raised bar top on the Capita legs? We tried to use a Lack shelf but it’s too thick. Thanks.

  10. vimadalalh says:

    Yes it is from IKEA.

  11. Shilpa says:

What is the top stainless steel bar? Is it an ikea product?

  12. Kim Mc says:

  16. Nicole says:

Really great and for the front or the back as you want it´s Plexiglas or anything else ? And where hâve you buy it ? I’m looking for something like this and you give me an excellent idea and all the item are available on ikea’s France tkt u for tour feed back

    • vimadalalh says:

      Nicole.
The front is 1/8″ clear glass. I had the glass custom made from a small local glass company. I also asked them to drill 4 holes in the corners. This was the hardest part, also the most expensive (~$400).
I then took the glass to another store to apply a film, that gives it the frosted look (~$100).

  17. Great look! Could you mention what plinth you used, and how it was attached? Thanks!

  18. There’s one 2×4 and one 2×2… both are still available!
