Making Billy and Besta high-end


Materials: Billy Bookcase, Besta Storage Unit

Description: For the Billy Bookcase:

1. Painted the back panel a dark charcoal – Behr’s stealth jet.

2. Filled in the peg holes with white nail hole filler. Unless you’re up close, you can’t see the holes, which is usually a tell-tale sign of an Ikea piece.

3. Drilled holes to secure brushed brass hardware purchased from

4. Spray painted hinges and screws with Rustoleum’s Metallic spray in Gold.

    @Rob – Thanks for the tip, but we haven’t had an issue with overheating. We did cut a small hole to thread the wire through and we do turn the Xbox off at night. Will keep an eye on it though!

    Nice, but FYI those components in the Besta unit will overheat for sure. I use the same low Besta cabinets and had to really vent the backs so my consoles and PVR wouldn’t get too hot. I eventually just cut the top part of the backing board right off and tacked the lower part onto the frame. works perfectly now.
