Building GRUNDTAL wall shelf without fixing to the wall

Materials: GRUNDTAL

Description: I think GRUNDTAL kitchen system is useful also for small kitchen design. But not be accepted to hole in the wall at room for rent. So I tried to attach GRUNDTAL wall shelf with a tension rod without linking it to the wall. Tutorial page is in the following link.

looking for a solution for our kitchen in a rented apartment I saw your hack and I love it! I see you set it up some years ago and I would like to know how it worked/works after some time.

Brilliant! I live in a rental, so this is a pretty awesome idea to give me more space without doing anything permanent that would need to be fixed when I move out. Thanks for sharing!

Living in a studio with a microscopic kitchen, I think this is one of the most brilliant hacks I have ever seen. I’m looking at the DIY store to find all the parts now. So incredibly clever!! Thank you for the inspiration.

Great idea – but there is a major failure mode of those tension rods come loose! If you use this idea, make sure those are held in very well.

    • Thank you for your comments. It is important things that choose firm tension rod as told you.
I’ve used about 5 months, Tension rod is still stable. I think the force applied to the rod is not so large. But I also noticed that I should care the wall shelf lean to the front. I added this point to the linked article. Thanks!
