REKTANGEL Knife Stand

Materials: REKTANGEL Vase and few packs of bamboo skewers

Description: Since there is too much room for my knives to play in a kitchen drawer, I created a place for it to standstill out in the open.

First, you need to get an IKEA vase of your choice matching the longest length of your knife....(Mine is called "REKTANGEL". It is rectangular shape and heavy at the bottom.)

Secondly, you need some skewers on your way home / order it online in advance. Alternatively you can get some chopsticks for the same effect.

Third, go stick your knife in there.

  1. I hate the look of a butchers block knife holder and this is perfect.

  4. Do the knives rest on the bottom of the vase or atop the bamboo skewers? If on the bottom of the vase I would consider something down there less likely to dull the tips. But a cool idea regardless.

    1. I wonder if a chunk of something like Sugru might stop the knives touching the bottom, and keep the skewers in place? Might make cleaning a nightmare, though....

    2. Keep your skewers longer than your longest knife blade. Problem solved.

    3. Yes, the skewers is longer than my 8 inch chef's knife. Also pack enough skewers in it to tighten the space preventing knife to reach the bottom.

    1. Two concerns.....spaghetti might be too brittle and my cat might eat it. :-)

I love these kind of tacomas, but they are always so expensive that I couldn't afford them.

About protecting the knife tips at the bottom (aside from making the skewers longer than your longest knife), what about a sheet of EVA foam? (it's cheap and easy to get, plus it comes in many colors and widths)

  10. some type of cork material at the bottom also should work
