Headboard with storage

Headboard with storage

Materials:
2 x Lack wall shelf (190 cm), Vika Amon table (200 cm), Besta book shelf (60x20x192 cm), Sultan leg, Wheels (non IKEA)

Description: We wanted a headboard with storage and found that IKEAs Malm solution would be a good alternative. However, this unit is not available in white, so we decided to build our own version.

We connected one Vika Amon desk (60x200 cm) with a Lack wall shelf (26x5x190 cm), and added a piece of wood to support the construction. We put Sultan leds on the unit so that it would match the legs on our bed.

Since the desk is 10 cm longer than the wall shelf, there is a 5 cm gap on each side (that is covered by another Lack shelf (5 cm thick) mounted on the storage units.)

As storage units, we used one Besta book shelf (20x60x192 cm), which we cut in half. The top part served as storage unit for the left hand side and the bottom part served as storage unit for the right hand side. We got some wheels at a hardware store that we fitted underneath.

To bridge the gap on each side of the main unit, we took 60 cm on each side of a Lack wall shelf and mounted it on the storage units. When the storage units are slided in on each side, the 5 cm gap is exactly covered.

We fitted the whole unit with some lightning to give it an extra boost.

  3. We used a standard 4 meter rope light (similar to this one: http://www.onlinebluelight.com/product/1/99/American-Lighting-White-Rope-Light-Lrleduww3.html) that we picked up at the after-christmas sale at a nearby hardware store. We mounted the light rope to the headboard using standard cable clips.
