Closet litter box hack
Materials: BOTNE
Description: I made this very simple hack a few months ago. What I wanted to do was to hide the litter box but not build something special. So I decided to just cut a hole in the door of a simple BOTNE closet.
Simple yet clean.

Interesting idea, but wouldn't it make all the stuff in the closet smell?
ReplyDeleteThats what I was thinking too! Cat urine smell = not so good.

DeleteHey, if they use decent litter and keep it clean, there should be no lingering odor..
DeleteWell, I have turned an ikea kitchen unit into a cat litter box - box and it's in my clothes area (i live in a studio), and at first it made the clothes stink. Considering mine is way more isolated that this one, i suggest they stick carpet on the shelf that's above, and make it overlap a bit so that it stops smells going up through that tiny gap between the shelf and the door when it's shut. Then also put an odor ionizer in with the cat litter, they work great ! And a febreze thingy.
ReplyDeleteYou don't want to become the smelly cat lady !
People put cat crappers in the darndest places. You might also try your kitchen pantry, or even better, build one into the headboard of your bed.
ReplyDeleteAs long as the pee and poops are cleaned out regularly there is no reason for anything to smell! If anything there may be a dust issue, but that can be easily fixed by closing off the top section.
ReplyDeleteSure people put litter boxes in different places, but so what? As long as they work for the cat, then why not?
Wont the smell waft all the way through your closet? At least everyone will know you're a cat lover. "Mm! Your sweater and pants and scarf smell like cat shit!"
ReplyDeleteNo, No, No the two areas of the closet are seperated. In the right one there are only work clothes and cat food, and the left part is has no connection to the part where the litterbox is.
ReplyDeleteAlso is sealed it with a window seal to stop the smell from going up
also my litterbox doesn't smell, why do people always think it would smell, if you clean it like twice a day, there is no smell, maybe after two to three weeks if you don't change the litter.
Cat waste smells immediately its evacuated and has nothing to do with how long its left before cleaning up. Some cat litters claim to mask the smell, but none are 100% effective.
ReplyDeleteThe best place for a cat litter is in a bathroom and well away from food and clothing.
Clearly you aren't using good litter, or you aren't cleaning the box enough if you have that kind of odor problem.
ReplyDeleteI use Feline Pine, scoop every day, and completely replace the litter & wash the box once a week. There is no smell other than a faint scent of pine wood.
Not everyone has bathrooms with enough rom for a litter box. plus, then you get out of the shower and may step in litter. Enclosing it is a good idea, and I can see a deoderizer on the shelf.
ReplyDeletewaste of a good closet...damn
