PJÄS cat tree
Materials: PJÄS dish, shelves supports, PVC pipe, drywall anchors, rope, hot glue, table adjustable leg
Description: First I attached the adjustable leg to the PVC pipe with screws.
I then covered the pipe with sisal rope and attached the shelves supports using drywall's anchors.
The PJÄS dishes were secured with Ø 4 mm millimetric screws, metal rings and nuts.
The tree was set in place simply by rotating the adjustable leg up against the ceiling (I used a wood bowl to protect the ceiling).

Interesting, but how do those baskets survive the cats jumping way up into them? Seems they'd be destroyed in short order
ReplyDeleteIt may be unbelievable but the baskets do survive!
DeleteThe rope however had to be replaced — the tree was made in August 2010.
They don't jump in.
ReplyDeleteThey are placed there & make suicide jumps to the floor, testing the notion of having 9 lives.
Or the next hack will be 100 uses for dead cats. LOL.
Or they are part of a secret Portuguese plan to develop flying cats, as mere walking ones aren't vile enough.
Or they levitate, because they are wearing anti-grav collars which Ricardo hacked using Ikea's Floatus oven mitts!
Or these are LOLCATS. They never move, just loll about.
Or the Fire Brigade will have to be called to remove them from the tree.
They climb the tree!! And they're great at landing on their feet!
ReplyDeleteFor how are they already using it? I have 4 cats and am currently checking which would be the best idea to appy on them :)
ReplyDeleteI'm concerned the baskets would easily rip off due to the type of material. Also it would never stand a chance holding my tubby cats. Good idea if it were safer. Maybe have the baskets attached to a solid board.
ReplyDeleteThe baskets have an internal metal structure so they're really tough.
ReplyDeleteEach basket has two screws, one on the bottom attached to the shelf support and another on the border attached to the tree.
I made this tree in August 2010 and the only thing I had to replace was the rope.
Shanti (the darker female) usually flies from the basket to the ground or to the sofa next to it. Suresh (the whiter male) normally tries to slide down the pole but he's kind of clumsy so he end's up falling to the sofa.
CONGRATULATIOS!!
ReplyDeleteGREAT PROJECT AND HAPPY CATS!!!
Your cats obviously love it, but why not add a shelf half way up for them?
ReplyDeleteCats climb trees outside. This isn't much different. They climb up the rope.
ReplyDeleteHowever, older and de-clawed cats would have problems getting up to the baskets so having a few small shelves going up to the baskets would be helpful for them. Plus, for any cat, it would be additional perching places to keep an eye on their "house" and their "people"!
I just might ask hubby to make one of these, only with shelves, too.

Very well done!
ReplyDeleteGenius! I will be making my own version.
