Lights from coffeemugs

Materials: FÄRGRIK

Description: We’ve used an old light which already was hanging above our dinner table….

We just removed the old lamps and replaced the coffee mugs. Before we put the coffee mugs on, we had to make a hole in the bottom of each mug.

Bummer, I really want the pendant light kit that you have, but the closest I can find is a 3-light kit.

Very nice makeover! Not just the lamps but the whole room – much nicer in the “after” shot.

Just a small suggestion (maybe more a matter of personal taste though) – the bulb looks a bit “over-exposed” in that it’s sticking out of each cup a bit too much. Would be nice if only the top half is visible. I know you are probably limited by the dimensions of the socket and bulb, but maybe you could continue to keep an eye out for different bulbs that may be shorter? I’m thinking of an effect like in this other hack…

do do you know how the original lamp was called? Is it also from ikea or where can i find it?

We indeed used a tile/glass bit and drilled very carefully… There’s only one mug broken!
And the quote I found on Pinterest…

Love what you did to the room. Is the quote on the wall your own?

You could also get the same effect from a small flowerpot (which already has a hole in the bottom). Not sure if IKEA’s tiniest ones have holes though.

I would assume they used a tile/glass bit and carefully drilled? Everytime I use one I inevitably crack one tile it seems.

I dig the “earth” saying too (not as keen on the purple but it works nicely)

Very cute! How *did* you get the holes in the bottom of the mugs?
