Frosted Ramvik
Materials: Ramvik Coffee Table, Frosted Privacy Window Film
Description: I was about ready to replace my Ramvik coffee table today. When it's clean, it's an awesome looking piece and I love having such large drawers. My problem is that it only stays clean for about an hour. Dog hair and dust likes to gather under the glass and it's nearly impossible to get it completely clean.
The hack is simple:
-Go to your favorite hardware store and pick up a roll of frosted privacy window film and installation kit. This shouldn't run more than $25 even if you get the huge roll.
-Clean the backside of the glass really well
-Apply the film according to the directions
-Enjoy your much cleaner (and in my opinion, better) looking coffee table!

we have the same table and the same problem - I've been after my hubby to make this very same change to ours!
ReplyDeletesometimes it helps to keep your used fabric softener sheets from the dryer and go over the glass with the used sheets to keep dust and lint from attaching to the glass so quickly. Especially if you are unable to find the privacy film right away.
ReplyDeleteYou can also find privacy window film by ikea ;)
ReplyDeleteBetter idea to apply to my table as well. Glass table is indeed hard to maintain clean forever. :)
ReplyDeleteIf you are applying this to the inside of the table, you can also buy a spray paint at any hardware store. It covers it and makes frosted glass really well. I have used it on windows that I did not want to put drapes on. I think it is a lot less $ maybe about $3.00 or $4.00 tops.
ReplyDeleteIs the RAMVIK no longer available in the US?
ReplyDeleteThat is correct. I called everywhere in the North Eastern region and the Ramvik coffee table is discontinued. I headed right to craigslist and found the table on there for 30$ in amazing condition. but now will be doing the frost glass hack. thanks
ReplyDeletewe have the same table and the same problem. i buy seasonal wrapping paper to put it under the glass and secure it on the inside of the drawers. always looks very nice :)
ReplyDeleteFound this hack a few weeks ago - great idea. Decided to go forward and try it today and it looks SO much better than it did before. A fe minor air bubbles once I replaced the glass on the table, but beyond that it worked out great!
ReplyDeleteWe have had ours for years, while we didn't use a film we found a frosted glass greenish color spray paint and just very carefully painted the underside of the glass so there was no streaking.. it worked great and the table has always looked clean.
