Expedit Hi-Fi unit

Materials: Expedit 2×2 shelving unit; spare dowelling rods; electric drill

By repositioning one of the upright dividers in the Expedit 2×2 shelving unit, I was able to fit my stereo amplifier into the unit. Normally, the unit is supported by dowelling rods that run through both upright dividers: since that was no longer possible, I needed to use additional rods to support the two uprights in isolation.

My speakers and record collection fit snugly around the result. The 7″ records fit on top of the amplifier: this was a happy accident.

Yes, looks good but don’t burn down the house! Read the instruction manual! No kidding!

Awesome set up. I really like how compact it is. Now I’m thinking about doing this!

Also, perhaps not the most hi-fi placement of speakers, close and in a corner of a room, facing a chest of drawers?

no “Lose-lose.” As a sound pro, just place the 7″ atop in book holders, and leave the room above the amp free. Perhaps place colored perforated or cutout pattern board of your choosing in back of amp, perforated gel board would be cool. Good luck.

The amp will be damaged from overheating. The 7″ records on top of the amp will slowly be damaged from the amp’s heat. Lose-lose.

Looks good, but how you prevent amplifier from overheating?
