Coffee filter light assembly
Materials: Melodi light fixture/with cord assembly
Description: I needed something a bit more elaborate for a modern, hip den (not formal living room), so I purchased three packs of bleached coffee filters (480 ea)and folded each and everyone of them on half, and one more time half, sort of created a paper flower with frills.
Than glued them on top of the shade (White Melodi, and I am still working on it...it takes forever, so please arm yourself with patience!!!!) to achieve a very posh effect.
I will post the pictures I have taken from the process and the finished product when it is installed. Similar fixtures can be find at Fab.com for over $1200.00 I saved about 1118.00 and you can too!

Picture with power please.
ReplyDeletenice, unless... it goes up in flames after 5 minutes.
ReplyDeleteI too am concerned about the heat generated from the light. I suppose if you used one of those tiny fake candle lights it might be all right but would that generate enough luminosity to penetrate all that paper? I'm anxious to see this finished!
ReplyDeleteOh why am I writing in german... sorry ^^
ReplyDeleteI was saying that my melodi lamp with a 20W energy-saving bulb does not get even slightly warm. For many reasons, LED bulbs are the better choice, though. look for "LED corn bulb" on eBay and get a big one around 10...15W, they work great with transculent lampshades since they emit light in every direction and have enough power to penetrate these thick layers of paper.
Love it!
ReplyDeletelooks o intriguing, i can't wait to see the final result!
ReplyDeleteWould you explain what are those small triangles?
How did you cut the coffee filters?
Thanks
Neomi
Post the inspiration pic please...
ReplyDeleteHave you finished this lamp yet? I'm anxious to see the result!
ReplyDeleteI bought the lamp (but the Regolit) and the white coffee filters and was so excited to make my lamp BUT when I fold the filters like in the description they do not get frills. Any idea why?
ReplyDeleteThanks.
