DYE and DIY British Flag Pillow

Materials: Aina cushion cover makeover

Description: I used the Aina cushion cover and transformed it into a cushion cover with the British flag.

First of all, I made my dye according to the instructions on the package.

I printed off the British flag and had it enlarged. You may used the original size if you want it smaller.

I cut out the flag and traced the design onto the pillow.

Using a fine brush, I painted the red and blue colors accordingly to the British flag.

I put a piece of cardboard in between the cushion cover, as it can seeps through.

Let it dry and there you have it. A brand new fun British flag pillow.

Hope you enjoyed it.

See more of the flag cushion.

  2. As soon as I saw the hack I *knew* an anon pedant would be along to complain about it not being correct! Anyway, anon, it can't be a "Union Jack" as it's not on a ship, anyway.

Technically the amount of White should be thicker/thinner in places but, you know what, it looks good and you should enjoy it. Tsk, killjoys...

  3. oh dear, add me to the killjoys. the dye you used needs to be set with hot hot hot water and then rinsed thoroughly. not so sure it works for an application like this. maybe try fabric paints next time? (which also have to be set with heat, but with an iron instead. maybe that would work here? i just think you're going to get red and blue ink all over your couch and yourself and your guests!)

  4. Hmm... is it pedantically semantic, or semantically pedantic?

It's the Union Flag because it's the flag of the United Kingdom.... of Great Britain AND Northern Ireland. So it's the flag of the "United Kingdom" NOT the "British" Flag.

Or, to put it another way, it's the flag in Northern Ireland BUT Northern Ireland is not part of Great Britain.

Perhaps confusingly, Northern Ireland is in the "British Isles", but so is the Republic of Ireland.

  5. Good job!! Reminds me of the Love cushion by Alexander Girard http://pinkappledesigns.co.uk/alexander-girard/accessories/love-cushion.1313.htm
