Expedit Paper Trays

Materials: Screws/ extra Expedit shelves

Description: I was looking at paper trays because im always getting the printer/copy paper mixed up. I looked online for cheap plastic ones thinking they would be $1 a piece but the cheapest i could find was $3-4 so I decided to make my own which I think looks better anyway.

1) in one of the open cubical I drilled 2 screws on each side at every 3.5″.

2) I rested the extra shelf on top of the screws.

this is great. i have been craiglist searching for a literature sorter to keep lots of paper stock and literature separate, but i have 3 5×5 expedits in my office, and i do have open/empty shelves. i am definitely going to try to hack a solution like this for myself…much nicer. however, like remko, i’ll need to figure out how to fashion additional shelves to use. great stuff.

As a Recovery Coworker at IKEA, I would say that you would rarely find extra Expedit shelves in the AS IS section, as far as I know we do not sell them retail either. It looks like Thomas simply used the shelves that he did not use for the regular 2×4 box configuration to make the smaller, paper tray shelves.

very nice, it all fits together well :)

You are right, I must’ve read over that one. Is it possible to just buy the extra shelves at Ikea then?

  7. Okok says:

Thomas, a really nice and simple idea. SOmetimes we don’t think of using extra shelves ad go through complicated additions instead! ;^)

Remko, I think it’s quite clear with the line
    “Materials: Screws/ extra Expedit shelfs”

nice, but you didn’t explain how you made the trays, just how you attached them. Are they the leftover parts after taking a shelf out for the printer and the espresso machine?
