If Ikea could sing ...
Thanks to Suzanne, I had an afternoon with 4 guys and a lot of Fniss. Seriously, if Ikea could sing, it would probably sound like OK Go. But it's not just the tune, the music video is charming (you can't go wrong with cute dogs) and the song is White Knuckles
. It's the first time I've seen the band and they totally floored me. The part where the guys twirled the Skruvsta chairs with mutts in tow ... just too funny. Proceeds from the video will go towards the ASPCA and doggie rescue. You can read more about OK Go's canine cause here. Go support them and have an great weekend.

Wow, 2 lame videos in 2 days. Will Monday bring us a hat trick?
ReplyDeleteI think it's nice that everyone recognised the furniture used in this video. If you don't like the music, turn the volume down, as I did. After all, it's a hack from this point of view: to use IKEA's furniture to do dog tricks it's a hack because it's all planed to be used by humans, at home/garden. I've seen worst here. By the way, anonymous, if you don't like the music, turn the volume down, as I did. I didn't like the "how to make fire" video either. IKEA sells lighters. You don't need to thrash that amount of wood to show that you know how to start a fire.
ReplyDeleteThe music wasn't the issue, but yes it was of a poor quality.
ReplyDeleteThis really has nothing to do with hacking Ikea furniture.
I hate these videos with animals forced to do all these "games". it's an abuse for me...
ReplyDeleteI loved it!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fabulous! Thanks for sharing. Also, a note to one of the readers comments about "being forced to do". Most dogs love having a job to do and are usually clicker trained which using a lot of positive reinforcement. It shows me that those dogs are well loved and have a very good relationship with their owners. It also looked like Ok Go were very careful not to do anything cruel (i.e. fast spinning chairs, etc.) to their furry friends.

This video needs a few more positive comments: it's not animal abuse, it's not a terrible song, I liked the use of Ikea furniture.
ReplyDeleteHaters gonna hate, right? ;)
this is BRILLIANT. I love these guys. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat can I say? At least it's not another cat crapper, so I suppose I shouldn't complain...
ReplyDeleteIt's great and it's a hack. If you want to hate go somewhere else...
ReplyDeletefunny. okgo are there to be that, funny! i usually prefer cats to dogs, better if both are not doing their things in cabinets, but this is a genius showing to me. looks like these dogs are THEIR dogs, or they've lived together for a long time before the video: they obey with almost no gesture needed.
ReplyDeleteokgo are not mozart or bach (but remember they're we're not musicstars at their time: they've become so "good" after their death), or, i don't know, beatles or you name it, but they can be funnier than, for example, britney.
and, if getting some wood to fire qualifies as a hack, to me this does too. and in a better way
You people calling others "haters" are douche bags and human garbage. Just because someone dislikes cheesey music, videos and non hacks you get all excited.
ReplyDeleteTake a Midol and chill out.

1. I think the point is, much like art being defined by the eye of the beholder, this is a hack to some and not to others. I think there is a reasonable case for it being a hack...but if I found it to be annoying and off topic anyway, I could, I dunno, TURN IT OFF.
2. Your brief criticism was insulting in several places and hypocritical at best. You seem to be telling a whole segment of the commenters to be tolerant of the opinion of others but then go on to refer to said commenters as "human garbage" for expressing *their* opinions. Er, what?
3. Your use of "douche bag" and reference to "Midol" are the truly ugly pieces here. They are both insulting to women for obvious reasons and a bit over-the-top for design blog commentary.
That said, I liked the vid and I'm *not* an OK Go fan. I know that my dogs have always rejoiced in feeling like they had a job to do and these dogs look as happy and well cared for as any I've seen. The IKEA trash can pyramid--briefly used for a little speed stacking--was quite fun...and dare I say? A hack.
Thanks for the post.
I don't think this video was necessarily posted as a hack, but more of a way of garnering support for their cause....of course it's relevant to this site because of all the ikea stuff they use in unconventional ways. I loved the video, and my kids thought the dogs were amazing. Good for them for supporting a great cause like the ASPCA, and kudos for such a unique way of showcasing how wonderful dogs are.
ReplyDeleteI loved this video!! The dogs were having as much fun as the people were, and if that was all done in one take I am truly amazed. The whole concept was so creative and well planned out, what a great video! I even love the song!
