Erik and Eric tipped me on this Flamma hack by Helmut Smit, an artist/designer. I'm still iffy on it because it's either a very expensive way to keep warm or a brilliant demo on how we can survive when we really need to by gutting our beloved Ikea furniture. You be the jury.

Doesn't Ikea sell Matches or Lighters?
ReplyDeleteI wonder how they did that in the stone age... with no IKEA around! :-)
ReplyDeleteEs ist eine witzige Persiflage auf alle IKEA Hacks und auf diese Seite hier. Und deshalb genial!
ReplyDeleteYou think IKEA would be upset if I tried this at the store? :-)
ReplyDeleteEn France, on a pas de pétrole, mais on a des idées !
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I don't understand the meaning of this
ReplyDeleteBest hack OF ALL TIME. If I'm ever stranded freezing & hungry in an Ikea, I'll know what to do. x-)
ReplyDeleteThe video would have been better if he used the fire to cook up some Swedish meatballs.
ReplyDeleteHa Ha, this is it, this is the cure for smoking. Stop selling matches and lighters and make smokers use this to light their cigarettes....
ReplyDeleteThe napkins are not the best solution. There are impregnated very often so they burn worse. Kitchen roll or toilet paper should be better.
ReplyDeletenot at all the best hack. the REAL best is what i saw just 2 days ago in a ikea center, for i have no picture of. a mom strolling her kid, who was laying in a yellow "if you like the yellow, buy the blue" trolley, if this is what they call it.
ReplyDeletePURE GENIUS,
Great idea and great video! Really funny:)
ReplyDeleteWow, I couldn't even get through it. The power of prediction is fantastic, and this is 7+ minutes I don't have...

Lamest of the lame
ReplyDeleteAre things in Ikea hacker-dom really this slow?
ReplyDeletePathetically conceived and executed.
Sorry, that seems very excessive. Thumbs down.

I thought it was a great hack. Very creative use of many Ikea products.
ReplyDeleteUgh! Man make fire! I'm impressed. Good hack.
ReplyDeleteI liked the band-aid.
ReplyDeletebest hacker is here
ReplyDeleteThis video is almost as lame as the OK Go video posted today.
ReplyDeleteFrom my point of view, this video isn't a hack for 2 reasons: 1)- you could have done the same using less material; 2) - you didn't need to thrash that amount of wood to show that you know how to start a fire. IKEA sells lighters. One of IKEA's sayings/politcs - I'm not english so I can't find the right word - it's to spare and respect environment. I think it shouldn't be seen as an IKEA hack.
ReplyDeleteAnd the moral of the story is. . . when the apocalypse/Armageddon/end of the world occurs, head to the nearest IKEA store. :)
ReplyDeleteWhy???? and those nail!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a serious contender for the Rube Goldberg award. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteI would also like to know how I can donate a few cents to the poor guy, so that he can go buy a lighter.
This is so much help! Now I know, If I ever participate on 'Survivor' reality, what my fav items will be! Thank you man!
ReplyDeleteWhat a waste.
ReplyDeleteif this is your champion....

ReplyDeletefor Italian readers. Otherwise please use Google translate ;)
ca revient cher le feu, quand même....
ReplyDeletewhy would you go to all that trouble when all you need in your pockets are a battery and some wire wool!
ReplyDeleteit seems as though he set out to destroy as many items as possible just to bore everyone to tears! he could probably have rubbed a stick on his head to start a fire,,he's obviously as thick as 2 short planks,,lol
ReplyDeleteGxxx
my only satisfaction watching this video was seeing that the 'hacker' had cut himself with the knife requiring a band-aid.
