Two Ikea hacks in one corner

Materials: 20 PS Vallo watering cans, 5 Spontan magnetic boards

Description:
The ever-changing sculpture is a pile of 20 PS Vallo watering cans that can be stacked and connected in various configurations. It looks even better - like a snake - if you have a flat surface to stretch it out sideways. Cost: $1.99 X 20 =39.80.

The magazine rack consists of 5 Spontan magnetic boards screwed to the wall. There are some nice, modern magazine wall-racks out there but you'll have to spend about $300. Cost of this one: $7.99 X 5 =$39.95

  1. How does the magazine rack stand off from the wall? Is this the Spontan? http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20118174

If you can provide a detail photo that would be great. Thank you, love both of these.

  4. The white sculpture is a beautiful piece. Can you show more images of different combinations? I'm not too fond of it only stacking upward - it's too predictable. Walking to that back corner is somewhat impractical because of the sculture, so you might as well have it stick out a bit more in random places.

The magazine rack is nice. I like how the magazines are sideways. It almost has too much of a dentist feel, but maybe that's because I can't see the rest of the room.

Great job on the price if your estimates on the regular price for that sort of thing was really $300.

  6. Hi:
    Thanks for the nice words.
For the magazine rack, I just nailed the spontan panels to the wall . The nail is smaller in diameter than the screw hole and the panels are somewhat pliable - that little bit of "give" is enough for me to slide the back third or so of the magazine behind it.
I'll try to post alternate views of the sculpture later

  7. I love the magazine holder hack so much. I've been racking my brain trying to find something just like this. The available colors don't match our livingroom's color scheme so I'm thinking I'll use spray adhesive to apply fabric on the fronts or use a stencil to paint them. Thank you so much for sending this in!

  8. I really like the PS Vallo sculpture! I wonder what would happen if you could insert a light somehow from below. Would the light ray's come out of the pouring side and how would it look?? would it create a cool pattern of light, or would it emphasize the asymmetrie of the Vallo...??

If ever I try it out, I'll post it...
