Autumnal mini-chest

Materials: minichest “Moppe”, paper napkins, colours, brushes, glue, acrylic transparent coat

Description: This is an old Ikea mini-chest called Moppe. I think they still have a similar product, even if with a different name. I decorated it using the decoupage technique with paper napkins.

First I smoothed the wood using sandpaper, then I painted the mini-chest using colours which matched with the napkins. After that I cut the pictures and stuck them on the sides and on the drawers shading their margins with a brush. Finally, when the pictures were completely dry, I protected my work with several coats of transparent acrylic paint.

I never comment- but I must say your little chest of drawers is just beautiful!

I bought the napkins in Italy in a shop that sells everythings for hobbies. I think there are similar shops everywhere, look for the department specialised in decoupage!
Thanks again for your very nice comments!

This is genius. Napkins are so ephemeral but often so beautiful. This is a champion idea to make use of them. You’ve done a wonderful job framing these really cool images and I’ve suddenly got all sorts of ideas that modpodge and I can execute.

I’ve just seen your Fira chest and it’s really beautiful. I think these chests are very inspiring. I too made others besides the one I posted, maybe I’ll post them sooner or later.

correction- yes that’s Moppe, but both Moppe and Fira were discontinued :(

Hi, your paintings are really beautiful!! love them. Just a note – that mini chest is called “Fira” and is a discontinued product by IKEA, also there’s nothing similar to it, is one of those things I’ll never guess why they stop selling… I want one!!!!!!!! :(

Lovely! I’m not inclined to comment, but this is worthy of notice. Your technique looks flawless, and the composition is quite professional looking. No substitute for a good eye.
