ikea catalogue 2008 is out!

every new ikea catalogue is a bit of an event for me. i can’t wait to get my hands on it, leaf through it – first a quick overview, then a slow study of new items, new ideas and creative uses. also, very importantly, to see if they’ve dropped the prices of old items further, which is always a good thing.

well, it is the time of the year again and i’ve just spent the last 2 hours flipping through the online catalogue. i’m still not done with the 370 pages!

at first glance, some of the the stuff looks seriously good. i’m eyeing the besta tv units and i am in love with the red linnarp glass cabinets you see on the cover.

i hope they look as good in person. guess i’ll be checking them out at ikea this weekend.

I agree about the Hemnes antique stain furniture. I have the full size bed and 8 drawer dresser. We were looking to add the loft bed and some chest of drawers. But, I cannot find the matching furniture anywhere. This is really quite depressing as I am now having to look for a completely new bedroom set.

Hello, I really wish Ikea would bring back the Hemnes 6 chest of drawers in the antique stain. I really hope the decision makers at Ikea decide to bring back the antique stain for the Hemnes range – particularly the drawers.

I am based in the UK and have looked everywhere for a brand new 6 chest of drawers in the Hemnes range.

I love your blog! I heard about it from Tim (aka Tim’s Head).I love IKEA too! This is such a unique and wonderful idea! You do an excellent job! :)

With BESTA you can get the Former Italia or Interlubke look for a lot less.
Too bad the widths are restricted to multiples of 60cm though.

Where’s RUBRIK in red? ABSTRAKT looks like plastic.

I would love to see the Besta doors being released as kitchen doors. that would look seriously stunning.
I know the sizes don’t correspond, but it would be very interesting to know if someone finds a way to customize the doors to make kitchen cabinet doors.

God, the black Hemnes stuff is seriously gorgeous. I adore that mirror chest so much.

Yes, it’s a great time of year! I’m always very excited, even though I’ve felt a bit disappointed these last few years. Like I no longer believe the consumist message… ;)

The red cabinet is as cute in person as it is in the book. Trust me!

The red linnarp cabinets are a favorite of mine, too. I just need to make up an excuse to buy them.

We *just* finally had an IKEA open here last week, and I haven’t been yet (avoiding the opening crowds). Can’t wait to see what their stuff is like with my own eyes!

I got mine in the mail too. Another giant wad of eye-candy (or let’s be honest, crystal meth for design addicts).

I’m liking the new beds with built-in storage drawers underneath. Given that my queensize bed is oriented sideways along a wall, i guess I need to find a way to hack them so I can access the full space underneath…?
