In Karen’s dream closet, she always wanted a makeup vanity to sit down to get ready. So when the opportunity to remodel the upstairs attic space into a master bedroom came up she designed the room around the vanity. “We placed it in front of the window and added a mirror, which works great as a privacy screen while dressing. We also added hardware to the drawer and a ‘styling station’ on the side to hold a hairdryer and curling irons,” she says.

Materials:

We converted the Ikea Malm dressing table into a fancied up Makeup Vanity by adding a mirror, hair appliance caddy and drawer handle.

For the first step, we installed a board across the back of the vanity to add extra support for the mirror.

Next, we installed 2 flat corner brackets on each side to support the mirror vertically.

The drawer spans the width of the table (plenty of storage!) but if you don’t pull it out from the middle, tends to be a bit wobbly side to side. I added a drawer handle to make it easier to slide it out. This step is optional but it sure makes it easier to get stuff from the drawer, especially when you have one hand on a curling tong.

Lastly, we added a plug mold and hair appliance caddy to the side. We contemplated hiding the plug mold under the makeup vanity on the inside leg, but because the side of the vanity is hidden from view, so are the cords.
