IKEA items used:

We wanted a rare and personalised hat rack but in the furniture stores those were much to expensive.

Therefore we selected four birch wood EKBY VALTER at the local IKEA store. Important to pay attention on the selection since IKEA use wood material with poor selection and in the store you will find a range of varying wood quality among the available EKBY VALTER wall brackets.

In my kitchen, my wife and I used my wood carving knives and softened the edges of the wall brackets and carved decorative patterns. This way the brackets were personalized and the primitive original design was masked.

This is so lovely! I love when things look so handcrafted but usually they’re either insanely pricey, or of dubious ethical origin (eg underpaid/sweatshop manufacture).
I’ve got a steady enough hand but would never have thought of giving this a shot!

I bought some of these brackets but never put them up because I didn’t like them on my wall. I tried to stain them but still not right. Now I’ll try my hand at carving them. Thanks for the idea.
