Mudroom, Laundry Room, or Entryway Organization Cubbies

Materials: 2 KALLAX Shelving Units

These Mudroom or Laundry Room organization cubbies are made from two white KALLAX Shelving Units. It also has the 4 KALLAX doors on the top unit, and 4 SKUBB Baskets to the bottom. Before attaching the units, we covered the wall with bead board, and wrapped it on each side after units were set into place. Crown molding on the top, and toe molding on each side were added to get the full built-in effect.

IKEA Hack

The left side consists of 3 wooden boxes stacked on top of each other, drilled into the wall, and painted white. To ensure the hooks are able to hold the weight of my kids schoolbags, we cut a strip of baseboard and hung it upside down drilling into the studs. This guaranteed us the ability to screw into a solid piece of wood for all 4 hooks. The laundry basket is ALGOT frame with the additional casters.

It’s been a few years, no idea if anyone will see this (or respond), but I really want to know how these hold up over time. We live where it snows and I worry the wetness will warp the wood and it just won’t last. If anyone has experience with this type of mudroom setup, I’d love to hear from you. Thanks in advance! :)

Looks great Fi. I’m planning something like this, just not sure in what arrangement yet x

I can’t figure this one out…. The description doesn’t seem to match the picture, especially where it says the left consists of 3 wooden boxes, stacked, painted & drilled into the wall?????!!

    • This is my hack. Sorry I wasn’t a little more specific. Our wall space was a wider than the KALLAX unit, so we used some scrap wood, built 4 sided boxes, painted them white, and “filled in” or inserted them into the space. The reason we built them into boxes is because we had to be able to screw them into the Sheetrock on the left and the KALLAX unit on the right. We stacked the boxes to get the built in look. I hope I explained it better.
