Hackers help: Can I paint the BESTA BURS?

Hi, I am Janelle. I would like to know whether Ikea’s Besta Burs line can be painted, and if so, which product would work the best? I would really appreciate your insight, or if you could direct me to somewhere I could ask. Thank you for your time.

You can also cover it with PANYL, which is inexpensive and will take about 15 mins.

If I were you, I’d check the “as is” section for a high gloss drawer face or door and practice first. There is a company called Panyl that makes peel & stick coverings that are cut specifically for ikea furniture, but I thought they were too expensive. I have a Besta Burs TV console & matching shelf that I considered painting but I was afraid I’d mess it up. I ended up covering it with heavy duty contact paper in a wood grain pattern. Because the surface is so smooth, it worked exceptionally well. Nobody can tell & they’re really surprised & impressed when I tell them it’s contact paper.

You can use acrylic paint without sanding or a primer before. It won’t cover the surface completly but so it gives a very interesting old look.

Try a deglosser instead of sanding to prep the surface. Much quicker than sanding or using a primer.

I’ve got great results with this primer http://www.dulux.co.uk/shop/primers/primer-for-difficult-surfaces
I’d sand it a bit just to make the surface rough, then prime and paint. I quite like acrylic eggshell.

Annie Sloan chalk paint will cover any surface – check onine where to purchase.

    Everything can be painted.

Sand it everywhere to remove the gloss finish
Use BIN primer ( it´s smell realy bad do it outdoor) the use any kind of paint you want. Use a songe roll, and sand it a little bit between each coat.

Use car spray paint, first, a coat of primer, then any car color you want, but there s less choice. Do it outdoor.

Sorry for my english, that s not my firts language.
