Boombox from car stereo

Materials: BESTA

Description: I drew the exact size of each component needed to create the boombox and I cut the door to accommodate the stereo, speakers and other components.

To power and customize the boombox I used the following items:
1) Car stereo
2) Speakers
3) Regulated Switching Power Supply
4) Toggle Switch
5) Volt meter
6) Cable grommet

After connecting the wires I assembled the rest of the unit and fastened with screws and caps the door.

Now the car stereo has become a boombox and I can listen music with tuner, cd player, usb and iPod dock in the house or wherever I want.

Can you explain in detail how this project is wired and powered?

Worst article ever! What is the cabinet made of how did you mount the receiver? Good suggestion but be as descriptive as possible please!

The receiver is mounted with the metal cage that it comes with to mount in car stereos.. you just slip it in and bend the tabs so it will stay put.. As far as power/wiring..He most likely used a universal power adapter purchased at radio shack or someplace like it.. Just snip the plug off and wire it to the ground and power/accesory wires on the receiver. Pretty simple if you know how to wire up a basic car stereo. The volt meter is excessive and not necessary.. Probably put in to match the the hole which the USB cables are coming through to keep it balanced for those of us with OCD

Does anyone know what the specs on the power supply should be? I’m seeing a lot of them on Amazon with various amps/watts ratings, just unsure of which one to get.

  7. Anonymous says:

Since the car stereo system runs off the car battery, I’d say 12v would be appropriate and higher amps/watts than what the rating on the stereo components require should suffice.
