Shabby chic Rast

Materials: Ikea RAST Chest of 3 Drawers

Description: A plain IKEA RAST PINE 3 drawer cupboard was the perfect size for a shabby chic French style spare bedroom.

I customized it by:

Gluing on a decorative wooden moulding shape on to each drawer.

I tacked each in place with a thin nail

Once dried, I painted it all the same colour.

I changed the drawer knobs / pulls to clear glass ones

My IKEA HACK is now perfectly lovely.

See more of the Rast hack.

  1. That's a nice mod, which leads me to the abbreviation thing. At first, I expected Rast to be short for rastafarian or perhaps radioallergosorbent test. Does Rast mean something else in Swedish (their home country)? Also, back to your mod, perhaps a touch of gold or cream in the scroll work would give it a more French provincial look. Nice work, though!

    1. I bought the mouldings from a local hardware store - one of those which has bits of everything, I have also seen some on Ebay. The knobs came from a shop in Shrewsbury. I know you can buy coloured glass ones at lots of shops now, ebay also has a good selection if you are stuck! Thanks for the comment.

    2. To tell you the truth, I usually trash pick knobs and even scroll work from furniture people are throwing away. I've gotten some great brass drawer pulls and more this way - and you can't beat the price! lol!
