Description: I crochet a lampshade cover for the SKIMRA I bought at Ikea many years ago. See how it brightens up a room after putting on a new dress?

1.Measure the Skimra lampshade's dimension.
2. Make a crochet swatch of 4" x 4" with the yarn or fabric strips of your choice. Count the numbers of stitches and rows of the swatch.

Bonsai from Fejka-plants

Description: I took one Ikea Fejka-plant to use as the tree trunk of the bonsai, and leaves from an another Ikea Fejka plant. I bent the branches some and set it into a different pot. I used hotglue to attach the branches with leaves, and some dark gravel to fill the pot.

Description: Remove one plank (easy to do without tools, just pull. Then hang it on the door. Expedit into active stereo speakers

Description: I wanted to get a very discrete stereo system in our dining area. I have a Logitech Squeezebox radio that I wanted to use as source, but the small speaker in it doesn't go a long way.. At first I thought of connecting a pair of PC speakers and hide them inside the Expedit, but I really wanted to get a full and deep sound that I wouldn't get from most PC speakers or iPod docking stations etc.

Then I got the idea to make the Expedit itself into a speaker.

A Zen Inspired Wall Hanging Hides the Ugly

Materials: Ikea ANNO AMORF and Ikea ANNO STRA

Description: We moved into an amazing work/live loft a few months ago, and we just about love everything about this place. Except one thing. The ugly white internet box smack dab in the middle of our living space with conduit going all the way up to the ceiling. Being renters, we couldn't do anything to move it.

It was such an eyesore that we started to brainstorm ways to hide it, while keeping the box and light switches accessible. Covering it with artwork just wasn't functional, and not much could be done to hide the pipe going up to the ceiling. We finally decided on hanging a single large piece of fabric, but weren't in love with the idea of a graphic print for our space.

Paper Pendant Lights

Materials: Orgel Pendant Lamp Shade

Description: Purchased track lighting rail from Lowe's and made a custom electrical splice in box that connects cord to 110V rail. I dropped the Hemma cord down and used twist tie to adjust length to create a custom lighting set over dining room table. Used with dimmer switch, the lights dim down to create a intimate dinner setting. The table can be adjusted to seat 4 or lengthened to seat 10. Table was also purchased at Ikea.

Sofa Fleece Blanket Bin and Magazine Storage

Description: We needed somewhere to store our sofa's fleece blankets and my wife's collection of magazines and newspapers. We already had a white BESTA JAGRA TV Bench so I wanted a similar looking piece of furniture to put behind the sofa. Upon visiting our local IKEA store I spotted the VIKA ANNEFORS.

Description: When at work and at home I use my Macbook air with an external monitor mouse and keyboard. What I really wanted was a BookArc from Twelve South but I would need to get two of them and at $39 a piece I figured I could come up with something.

Description: 2 white laundry hampers were used to create a large photo light box.

Place the hampers together so that the lids will be facing towards each other. The hamper nearest you will be the front hamper.

LACK Side Table Planter

Description: This started out as an idea to turn an Ikea LACK Side table into a planter. But once I cut a hole in my LACK I realized there are a whole bunch of other things I could do with it. The best thing is that if you get bored with the way it looks you can change it up to match your mood or the seasons.

Custom built-In IKEA PAX

Materials: PAX wardrobes

Description: I love how functional and flexible the IKEA PAX units are, but I don't like the look of having a big wardrobe sitting in my bedroom. I do however love the look of custom built-ins, so using the PAX as the foundation pieces, I built two shallower cabinets which I attached to either side, then I trimmed the whole thing out, with gables, friezes, toe kicks and wrapped it in baseboard and crown moulding to make it match the original mill work in the house.

Glowing Flower

Materials: IKEA Regolit Lamp, small and big paper muffin liners,a pair of scissors, glue

Description: I was a little bit bored by our Regolit Lamp, so I changed it a little bit.

First you have to cut the sides until the bottom of the Paper Muffin Liners.
After this you have to turn the paper muffin liners inside out and glue some of the smaller paper muffin liners into the bigger one.

Lack entry way table

Description: Husband and I wanted a modern looking entry way table but were unable to find anything we both liked. So we decided to Hack a LACK!

You will need:

4 LACK Shelves Length: 74 3/4 "

This is a pretty straight forward hack. We positioned shelves 7 inches from both top and bottom. Used L-Brackets to secure. You may use additional brackets to secure hack to wall. We have wood floors and it is pretty sturdy.
So far so good!

Description: We'd bought an Ikea set of tables a few years ago. They served us well, even surviving our first daughter and her drawing / painting / play-doh / doll mash-ups. Over time the veneer cracked, and edging started to peel away. The tables' futures were sealed...

We needed new tables but i'd also been reading a lot about recycled timbers, particularly local Australian native hardwoods. These woods have beautiful colours, are very high quality and unique. Moreover, if you can locate a specialist native timber recycling yard, you are doing your bit to repurpose rather than always 'buy new'.

Lack Shelf to rolling iMac Stand

Transform your unused bathtub in a wardrobe - reuse it in the future

Description: Put into the bath eight wood prop to support the weight of your new wardrobe, a wood board (2 cm) to cover your bathtub. Mount the pax wardrobe on it. You don't need to take out the idric system, the depth of the wardrobe let you leave it without hydraulic work.

Description: 1. Bought several Lack wall shelves of 110cm and 30cm, a mixture of white and birch colours.

2. We configured them in a mostly random manner which after a few iterations started to resemble a tree and so it's now our tree of (LACK of) knowledge!

3. Depending on the size of your wall, this tree can definitely grow with your accumulation of books. Each Lack piece can be individually replaced as well so no need to replace an entire bookshelf if one area is damaged.

FNISS + HEMMA = 3-Season Lamp!

Description: We have a three-season porch attached to our garage that needed a new lighting solution. We have lots of IKEA in our house, so that's naturally the first place I looked.

The porch has a few electrical outlets on the ceiling, so I was looking for some sort of pendant light, and knew that HEMMA would probably be involved. Sadly, most of the paper lanters seemed too delicate to withstand the extreme temperature and humidity [Minnesota] fluctuations. The solution seemed to be to use a plastic shade, but sadly, there didn't seem to be one that provided the look and function that I was looking for...

Expedit: the bench, bookcase & Bass speaker version

Description: Our family room is quite long, but not wide enough to accommodate additional chairs without the room becoming too overcrowded. Our wish list for this room was extensive: a place to permanently house the TV components, stereo, hide the TV wiring, book shelf for storage/display and additional seating for larger family gatherings. The impossible dream .... could one piece of furniture meet all these needs, and of course, not break the bank. We already had th e Expedit 5x5 shelving unit, and during a visit to a friend's place, noticed the Expedit 1x5 shelving unit placed horizontally on the floor was the same height as a stool. This was the AHA moment..... an Ikea hack of Expedit units to fulfill all our needs!

Pretty Nordmyra Chair Camouflage

Materials: Nordmyra chair, wallpaper, spray adhesive, knife

Description: I found a Nordmyra chair in the clearance section that had been scratched on the seat. Nothing a little camouflage can't fix! I cut pieces of leftover wallpaper to size for the seat and back, and used spray adhesive and then covered in a glaze just to make sure the edges don't fray. Love it!

A professional looking Faktum/Rubrik/Nexus kitchen

Description: My idea was to create a professional looking kitchen using stainless steel and wood.

I hacked the angular corner base cabinet in order to fit to a double sink.
No carousel inside, empty space for a dustbin and cleaning products.

Description: We are always looking for unique items that can excite and personalize our studio, and this lamp is a perfect canvas.

This project was super fun, but we also faced some challenges. It was important to get the right proportion throughout the piece, as a whole. Based on how each spindle is spaced, the shapes of the solid rectangle chips would overlap at the top and bottom of the lamp. Our preference was to have equal distance between each chip.

Varde island with stainless Vika Hyttan desktop hack

Description: This one is a relatively simple hack with a stylish final product. My wife and I were planning on using a Varde kitchen island in our kitchen, and decided on a four-door Varde base cabinet, which didn't come with a counter top.

Custom built kitchen for tall people

Description: Because of my height, we wanted a kitchen higher than IKEA allows. Secondly, we wanted it to be proportionate to the space, and we didn't want too many cabinets. So we came up with a design that was:
- 100 cm high
- 90 cm deep

King Artur

Description: I took two Artur trestles and mounted them cross-over.
To do so I cut out the pieces of the L-shaped wood in the lower (not moveable) part of the tresle that was in the way of fitting the 4 parts into each other (Artur pic no. 1) to form a cross (Artur pic no. 2).

Description: I buy these lovely Ikea Stoneware trays and vases and decorate them with ceramic colors.

VÄCKIS wooden modern clock

Materials: VÄCKIS clock, pre-made frames or scrap wood, glue, stain

Description: Add a wood frame to the VÄCKIS for a modern/mid-century/rustic mantle clock. I lucked out and found some chunky pre-made, stain-ready pine frames but this can easily be made with some scrap wood. I added some little gray stick on foam pads to keep the clock snug in the opening and glued two frames together for the appropriate depth.

Spoka Box

Description: This is the Spoka Box ver 2.0. Turn your Spoka light into a useful butler. Programme it to wake up its master gently, turning on a soft light some minutes before the alarm time. It is also upgradable with much more usable functionalities in the near future.
