Materials: Ordning Cutlery stand and Dignitet Curtain rail
Description: Wanted some plants to hang vertically in front of the glass panel on the door in the kitchen.
So I used 5 (you could always use more) cutlery stands and two curtain wire mounts from Ikea to create the vertical garden in the kitchen. You can put normal plants in it or even herbs.
I wove the stainless steel wire of the curtain wire through the outside holes on the cutlery stand and it is very secure once tightened.
You can Jumbo size this idea and make it longer and bigger.

ReplyDeleteFabulous idea! How difficult is it to adjust the plants vertically? Do you have any issues with them slipping as they get heavier (like when you water them)?

ReplyDeleteSeems that mine rust quite a bit..
No issues with them slipping, they can be adjusted easily with a bit of force to fine tune them into position. even after fully watering them there is no way they the extra weight will move then once the wires are tightened. I had to use two hands to move each side slowly and I am a 95kg and relatively strong ( I think anyway :)).
ReplyDeleteIf I was to do it again I would keep the vertical wires on the outside of the cutlery holder at the top and go in the first hole and come out the last hole. I put it in on the inside at the top and wove it out in and out again once....it made it a bit difficult putting the pots in as I lost a small amount of diameter at the opening. It wasn't a drop in fit that I originally had without the wire there. but no big design issue... enjoy I had fun doing it.. only took 20 min in total to fit with cordless drill and pencil.
Note' the distance between the rails/ wires is 12cm.

No issue with rust at all al stainless steel
