Stolmen Hairpin Leg Desk

Materials: Stolmen chest, besta legs, capita legs, vika amon table top, hairpin legs

Description: I really love the 1950s Vista Floating Desk but didn't want to pay 2000 dollars plus for one. So I decided to build one in its style!

I attached 4 Capita Legs to the Stolmen chest. I then attached 2 Besta legs to the Vika Amon table top (39x23). I bought 2 hairpin legs online. They are raw steel so I had to spray a protective coat of Rustoleum so they don't rust as easily. Then I placed the table on the chest. I put rubber things on the bottom of the Besta legs to prevent it from sliding too much. And that's it!

  1. I think where the table meets the drawers could be done better maybe with a couple of metal L brackets set well back from the front edge.
It may just be your camera lens but the table top does not look level.

  2. I love this! I just upgraded to a laptop but don't really spend a lot of time in the second bedroom we've made into an office because my desk is so bulky. I like the simplicity of it a lot-- pinning it for later!

  4. Yeah, that table doesn't look level.

  5. It doesn't look level, true. However, it looks as if those hairpin legs are adjustable, so it could be fixed easily. Alternatively, use something (washers?) between the Besta legs and the table top or use legs that are a bit higher than the Besta.

  6. I think perspective fools either of you, and it's very level after all. Love this hack. Very clever and neatly done.

  9. Hey, just wondering where you found the two hairpin legs and how much they cost.

  10. what size are the hairpin legs? or do you cut down the besta legs?

  11. How does the vika amon table keep from sliding off the stolmen chest? Is it attached in some way? And what is the situation with the blazing light?? My eyes hurt even after looking away. Still, great hack!

  13. Cool but don't see how this is a floating desk at all. It has legs.
