Ikea hacking iPhone style...

Materials: iPhone + catalog

Description: I wanted to picture Ikea furniture in my house before I bought anything.

Mainly for one reason: returning things is a pain in the ass.

So me and 2 friends hacked together an iPhone app that does just that.

It's called Ikea Now.

With our app, you can now picture popular Ikea furniture in your phone using the camera. We think its cool.

Get the FREE app here.

    1. As mwinter mentioned below, it works on the 4/4S/5. We've excluded the 3/3GS due to hardware limitations (primarily a slower chip) in rendering the 3D models.

      Which iPhone do you have?

    2. I think it's the 4s as you can see I am not very technical & never update it which may be the issue- I will try it on my husbands phone. Thank you for the reply- good luck with the app!

  16. Anonymous - I installed this app on a 4s and it works, my friend also put it on her 4.

@Andy am I missing something? Each section only has just a few items from the actual catalog, but not the whole catalog itself. Bummer if this is how it really is supposed to be. :(

    1. mwinter,

We only have about a total of 50 product currently in the app because we wanted to release the app as soon as possible for quicker feedback.

Since its only me and my 2 friends (only of which 1 is doing the models), its taking quite some time to create the models. We're trying to churn them out as soon as we can and you will be allowed to download the new models every month.

Now if Ikea bought us and supplied us w/ $, we can hire a lot of people to build the models out ;)

We're working around the clock to meet the demand so thank you so much for your patience!

    2. Oh and one more thing, our team's goal is to do about 20-30 models a month. Much of it will depend on what other features we're building. We do have some new features in the making, including landscape mode, and a couple other things that we think you'll be excited about ;)

Our focus is to make the overall use and experience as smooth as possible while building the models.

Last but not least, thank you for telling your friend w/ the iphone 4 to get it!!!
