Materials: Kura Beds & Maskros Light
Description: When we were looking for ideas for our girls' new room I was inspired by another hack I saw on Ikea Hackers for the Kura beds.
We started with two Kura beds (both found on Craigslist!), painted them black while they were unassembled and built the platforms and drawers out of painted plywood.
The drawers are on wheels and go all the way to the back of the bed so they provide a LOT of storage! The curtains for the bottom bunks are just held on with tension rods.
I spray painted the "flowers" on the Maskros light before assembling it.
The pictures on the top of the walls are the IKEA $2.99 framed mirrors. We put black and white pictures on top of the mirrors to make them look like framed prints.

I think it's fabulous and even more so, that all 4 girls share a room - in my view a much healthier and better way to grow up! Well done!
ReplyDeleteThis is great! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletethanks so much for sharing this... its great inspiration :)))
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to have four girls share a room without giving up storage. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThe entire room looks beautiful. I'd like to see more details about how you built the base and drawers.
ReplyDeleteYes!!
DeleteDream room! And so would I, too, know wich base you used and whether you can use the full width of the beds with those? (because of the lost space otherwise that fills itself up with dirt and all..)
DeleteIt's a really good modification of the kura bed. Please can you explain in detail, how you build the base!
DeleteThe initial post mentions the drawers go all the way to the back and have wheels to come out. Very cool.
Deletethis is awesome
ReplyDeleteJ'aime beaucoup c'est super bravo !
ReplyDeleteYou did a fabulous job with this girls' room. Girly and appropriate, not overdone!! Awesome :)
ReplyDeleteWow, great hack! Ikea should have designed it like that to begin with.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful (and functional) space. Its a classy and fun style that the girls shouldn't grow out of for awhile. Well done!
ReplyDeleteGreat hack! I too would like to see more details about the base and drawers.
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteI would have loved this as a kid when I had to share with my sister. The little curtain is such a cute way to give the bottom bunk-dwellers a bit of personal space and the storage is amazing. It's the first bed-on-a-platform I've seen that doesn't look like a bed was plopped on a chest of drawers. Great work.
ReplyDeleteThat looks beautiful. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeletePerfect!! From the colors, to the bunks, to the pics that line the ceiling--this is a GREAT room!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so lovely. I love the quote on the wall. Would never have thought to use those mirrors as frames. What others have said about the bed on the draws is true. Looks very seamless and your little ladies are very lucky to have such a truly pretty room.
ReplyDeleteThis is really lovely. It is so well done, and it will last as your girls grow. I greatly dislike pink, and I still think it is just perfect.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! I would love to see more on the base of the bed as well. How did you attach the top part?
ReplyDeleteBeyond wow. Although how you found the time when you have four kids (at least!) is amazing too! Great job, both elegant and welcoming.

ReplyDeleteThis was an amazing interior. Especially, girls love to live in. This was really an excellent design with modern thought. Thanks for the post Christy.
ReplyDeleteThe total room is just darling, well done.
ReplyDeleteThis is so well done! I really like the frames I might try it, it's a great idea!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! It looks very elegant, girly, and neat! I love the colors! Although I can't imagine how four girls get along together in one room haha:D I was always fighting with my sister because she's so messy and I'm shy of OCD.
ReplyDeleteawesome! it looks like a easy, fun and safe hack! plus thats one beautiful room!
ReplyDeleteRRRealllly awesome!!!! Which are the drawers you used? Are they ikea too? How did you make the extra "legs" (or panels?) in order to heighten the beds so the drawers could slide underneath - I mean, so the bed remains stable and strong enough at the same time for two kids...?
ReplyDeleteThe mirrors look cool like that, but fend shui advices not to place mirrors to reflect you(or your child) asleep, FYI.
ReplyDeleteThe beds look amazing as does the layout.
Don't really care for the makros in red, but that's just me I guess
There are no mirrors. She purchased mirrored frames and replaced the mirrors with photos of her children.
DeleteHi, very nice. How did you build the platforms. Can you describe it?
ReplyDeleteI have to do this hack!!!! Great Jobs! Do you have the measurements for the plywood base and assembly instructions. and where did you get the storage drawers. Please email me bmanyette@gmail.com Many Thanks
ReplyDeleteGreat job! Very simple question - did you sand the pine wood frame before you painted? What kind of paint did you use? Thanks, Lorien
ReplyDeleteWow, what a nice job! It looks great!
ReplyDeleteWe just got the Kura bed, and I'd like to paint it for my daughter. My husband says you can't paint these. Any tips for both the frame and the panels? Did you sand first/what kind of paint?
Thanks so much!
