Custom Crazy Clock
Materials: TAJMA wall clock ($9.99), Scissors, fabric glue, fabric, an inexpensive paintbrush, paper adhesive (such as double-sided tape), computer drawing program (such as Photoshop, Paint, GIMP, etc.), a box cutter, and small hand saw.
Description: Hi! I wanted a bright, fun clock for the pop-art inspired home office we decorated (a previous Ikea Hacker post), but didn't find anything I really liked. After making curtains and pillows from Ikea fabric, I had some left over and though it would be the perfect pattern on the clock.
Using Ikea's TAJMA wall clock for only $10, I created a fun and coordinated clock for this home office. I almost opted for using cut up strips of an Ikea catalogue as I was inspired by another Ikea Hacker post I read this morning (Ikea catalogue curtains - genius!), so any fabric or paper will do just fine.
See the step by step guide for the personalised clock.

I'm sure you'd be able to sell this on eBay or etsy. It's terrifical!
ReplyDeleteLove!
ReplyDeleteDecorating something is not a "hack".

DeleteOk, That wasn't the look I was going for lol.
DeleteThe original Reply read: Thank you!
When it posted, I noticed it was unclear whether I was saying thank you to Anonymous 1 or Anonymous's reply to the comment. I was replying to the reply. As in "Thank you! I am glad you found a reference to use as a reply to one of the most common, most annoying comments I see on this website!" Why does anyone even bother to comment that something isn't a hack? Just to make someone feel bad? Or is it to prove some weird superiority by criticizing someone else's work?
I for one thought the clock was beautiful, and it's a brilliant way to make generic ikea stuff truly YOU. So thank you, OP, for this lovely hack!
This would also work with washi tape - would look awesome!
ReplyDeleteAwesome job, looks fantastic, great hack
ReplyDeleteThanks for the nice comments! It's a great way to repurpose the leftover fabric from the pillows to make something custom.
ReplyDeleteSo cool!!!! It looks great and it is one of a kind! What a way to 'hack' a simple clock into a unique decorative accent.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see your site to get more ideas. Thanks,
Fun!
ReplyDeleteHave you got the fabric reference? I can not find it on the ikea site (I'm in France)
HI! Unfortunately I don't believe they sell that fabric any longer. When I purchased it last year, I bought what was left on the roll and they didn't have any more, and couldn't locate any in any nearby locations. Perhaps a store near you may still have some. The end of the fabric says "Design: S Edholm/L Ullenius 2008 IKEA of Sweden AB" and there were at least three versions of this fabric...color, blue tones, and greyscale. There were a few other patterns in the series as well.
DeleteThat looks great, I love what you did to the clock.
ReplyDeletePeople should think out of the box more often :)
