White concrete wrapped Ikea kitchen island

Materials: Faktum Cabinets, Rational drawers Besta Push Openers

Description: Used standard Faktum Cabinets with a custom re-enforced ground frame to hold the weight of concrete benchtop. Used Besta push openers to act as drawer openers so I can maintain a flush appearance on the front of the kitchen island.

  5. Very well made, but looks like a desk from the back, not an island.

  8. This one of the best islands I have seen. I really like it. I am curious about the clearance distance at the sides & how comfortable you find them. Just looking at your pics I am now thinking I might be able to fit in a decent island after all. Well done you ....

  10. I'm about to pour my first concrete counter slabs this weekend, to put on top of *my*IKEA counters--what additional reinforcement did you feel was necessary? Seems to me that the weak point is the feet... but I'd be interested to hear what you did to increase their strength. Looking forward to more pictures!

  11. Hey Guys,

I have now finished the tutorial for the kitchen island, Enjoy and good luck!

You will see the answers to the re-inforcement issues here. The clearaance distance for the overhang is 200mm but i would actually do 300mm if you could spare more space.

    Cheers
