Materials: Kitchen and bathroom Ikea cabinets
Description: This was an open space kitchen/living area. We wanted to keep things simple and uniform. After selecting Nexus and Abstract fronts for the kitchen we came up with an idea of using the same for the nearby entertainment unit.
What we used were kitchen cabinets 40x92 cm (Nexus fronts) covered (as in the kitchen) with Pragel counter top and white glossy tall Godmorgon cabinets, to match glossy white Abstrakt fronts in the kitchen. Also in the kitchen we used top cabinets to create a narrow island, but that's another story :)

ReplyDeletei love the idea, but not the colours. not the white glossy cabinet in the tv zone, with the grey stone wall behind it. but it's my taste and the rest, beside colours, is really great!

Thank you! No, the glass pannels are not from Ikea (the ones from Ikea are smaller), they were made to measure.

ReplyDeleteHello, this is Diana, I sent the pictures. I had no idea it was up already :) First, thank you for the comments. First of all, the flat is not mine, it's my Client's (I'm an interior designer and I hack Ikea a lot).
ReplyDeleteAnd as for the questions - the door is opened with click-clack openers (as Jimmy wrote - push-open latches). This is useful, as the Client has small kids (I do too) and as I know so far they haven't worked out how to open the door (it's a matter of time, I believe).
The cabinets are elevated by tiny rubber mats (think oldschool computer mouse pad), we were first considering felt pads, but decided against it as we were afraid they would get too flat due to the weight ot the unit. The whole project was done on a newly furbished flat and the floor is very even (it's laminate flooring), so we only needed a very tiny space for the door to open and we wanted to get the sturdy "standing on the floor" look. The top is the cheap Pragel counter top, cut to measure. We used it because it matched the wall and was very cheap, the only downside is that the cuts are visible on the sides. Than again, if you use genuine stone top you get cuts as well, and my Clients were not bothered by those lines (they are very thin). The counter top was cut symetrically and if you look very closely you can see a thin white line on the counter top over the external cabinets, at 1/4th of the lenght.
As for the 3D comment - well I can only wish I had that great 3D modelling skills. This is a genuine, finished project and if you google me you can find it on my website and facebook or some of the pics on my blog as well.
