Bathroom remodelled with Pax and Akurum
Materials: Ikea Pax Wardrobe and Akurum base cabinets
Description: We remodeled our bathroom with built-in Pax wardrobes (3) and Akurum (2) kitchen base cabinets cut down in height and depth to allow them to be used as a vanity. I had to cut the doors down as well (height 20" to allow for the vessel sinks).
By cutting the edge tape of first and then cutting the door to size it allowed me to re-use the edge banding on the doors. I used a 4x8 nexus black/brown panel from the kitchen department for fillers on the Pax and Akurum to give it the "built in look".

Where did you get those tiles on the wall?
ReplyDeleteThe wall tiles came from www.walldecor3d.com. They were very easy to hang with contact cement, just prime and paint them first...
DeleteThe wall tiles and countertop are so unique and special! Great transformation, what a makeover!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome re-do of your bathroom!
ReplyDeleteI love the design - and those wall tiles! Where did you get them?
ReplyDeletewhere did you get the tiles and countertop?
ReplyDeleteTiles from the counter top came from glasstilestore.com
Deleteloft cave ice circles they are called.
Whoa -- nice job! Do you have any more details about taking out the existing sliders and closets? And what did you use for edging around the countertop? The pictures don't show the vanity details very well -- do you have a front shot?
ReplyDeleteThe counter top edge is a 1 1/2 inch aluminum angle iron from home depot just screwed it in from the bottom. The closets were completely removed and the floor had to be repaired where the wall between the closets was. had to re sheet rock a little in the ceiling and walls. I have pics but don't know how to get them posted here.
DeleteThanks for taking the time to reply. I was curious if you had to repair the floor and ceiling, since the Pax units would cover up most of the old closet interiors and floors. I'm thinking of doing the same conversion with two small pantry closets, so I'm sorry to hear that you had to do some repair work!
DeleteI think most people put their pictures in Photobucket or Flickr, then link to them here. I think you could also e-mail ikeahackers and attach the pictures and ask them to add them to your post -- I've seen that on some other hacks.
Now, *that's* a feature wall!
ReplyDeleteVery clean and modern. Nice re-do!
ReplyDeletenice design. truly eye-catcher.
ReplyDeleteEverything is shouting for attention....other than the Pax. Tomorrow this will be so yesterday, I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteWhy would anyone waste time spewing such venom?
DeleteSpewing venom? Really?
DeleteAs everyone is commenting only on the design not on the hack, the above poster just voiced what I thought was a valid point.
It seems to me that the squares of the wall tile, the circles of the counter and the waves of the mirrors are all vying for attention but speak different design languages.
The tile "talks" to the square sinks and squarish light fixtures, but the bubble counter and the wavy mirrors, while beautiful on their own, are just distracting here. Not every surface needs the coolest, newest material....
So before everyone runs out and buys the cool wall tile, make sure that the tile makes sense in your environment and remember that most of the time, less IS more.
Have you ever heard of contrast??? Go pick up a copy of Architect Digest and read it! You sound like a jealous ex-boyfriend/ girfriend...
DeleteI think it looks awesome!
Looks great! After working with flooring and sheetrock on my own hack, I know your bathroom redo could not have been easy, but you have achieved professional results. Well done!
ReplyDeleteJust a side note: I can sort of see the above commentor's point, with there being more than one focal point. (The wall tiles, the countertop tile and the wavy mirror frames all tend to draw the eye simultaneously), however your overall design is a timeless, not a dated, one and what counts is that you are happy with it. And if you ever decide to make changes, swapping out mirrors and/or wall tiles are relatively easy makeovers.
Thanks for sharing your inspiring project!
I liked the 'before' better...just kidding!!
ReplyDeleteI love it!! It's very professional looking!! You did an amazing job pulling it all together!! I checked out the links you provided for the tiles on the wall - as others were also asking - thanks so much for sharing!!
Where did you get the lights?
ReplyDeletehome depot
DeleteThis was an amazing transformation, but it sounds like you do need a fair amount of D.I.Y. skills to pull this one off. The finished project is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteabsolutely love it, very chic! where did you get the mirrors?
ReplyDeleteBusy, busy, busy.... where does the eye get to rest?
ReplyDeleteBitchy, bitchy, bitchy... were does it ever stop. NO ONE has commented on the hack. Just the style of the decoration, you can like it or you can hate it, but it is an improvement..
DeleteThe hack(s) are not visible. So everyone just gives their opinion on the design.
DeleteSure this new space is a VAST improvement, but since everyone seems to want to run out and buy these materials for their spaces, I think the above comment serves as a valid word of caution: think before combining (too many) trendy materials. One or two eye catching surfaces surrounded by more neutral finishes will always make a stronger statement, and be even more pleasing to the eye.
The pix are too dark to see the Pax hack. For me, anyway.
ReplyDeleteThe before pictures looked like a scene from 'That 70's Show'. Great job, really like the square sink basins, are they from Ikea too? Thanks
ReplyDeleteFantastic reno. Thrilled to find out where you bought the decorative 3D panels. Been looking for a good source for a long time, and turns out this company is Canadian. :-)
