Trunk bar

Materials: 2x Besta 60x20x200

Description: I bought two Besta in same size. Cut the upper part to the preferred size, in this case 150cm high. Mount 2 hinges between the two box. Screwed the shelves into to boxes with rails for the glasses. Covered first with foam and after with leather using 2sided tape. Decorate with nails on the edges and locks. Finally wheels are screwed to the bottom.

Probably the best hack I’ve seen in a long time now, and by far one of the funniest! WELL DONE! :D
But where did you get the metal pieces to make it look like a trunk?

very very nice… I like the idea, which I think is a bit of a groundbreaker… who would have thought to make something like this, and in such a nice finish? only one comment though…. where is the ice compartment ?

I’m not sure how the lichting works, presumably you are using dioder/led cabinet lighting, with a cable being fed through the back.. might I suggest using a dioder in combination with a reed switch (like on refrigerators) running off a 12 volt battery pack? you would not be tied to any sockets that way…

in all, I think this should be a contender for the hack of the month, just because of how original this approach to making a bar is.

That is AMAZING! I really like the concept and it seems to keep everything organized and you can store in a small space. Great hack!

This is a very cool piece but can it top over and brake all your glasses ? I mean how sturdy is it when shut up ? Woman that has grandchildren wants to know ……..

Incredibly clever and cool looking as well. One of the best hacks I’ve ever seen on here, certainly one of the most original.

I hate to rain on all your giddy excitement, but I think this is is really UGLY.
Looks like the kind of thing that you’d find in a pimp’s place.
    Tacky, tacky, tacky….

If you don’t have anything nice to say don’t anything at all. This was very creative and deserves kudos. Don’t rain on someone ellse’s parade just because it’s not your taste. They made it for them not you. Keep your negative comments to yourself, no one appreciates it.

Brilliant. This is a hack worth copying.

  27. It’s good to know if this trunk bar cabinet has castor wheels underneath to make it movable and easy to put in your decide place if ever you need it. If you have celebration, you just push it to the place near your visitors so that they can get what they want easily.

Although white vinyl or leather might not be everyone’s taste – I love it. The only thing that would have made this better is if it was alligator embossed vinyl. The execution looks impeccable. I would love to take a similar hack on, but don’t think I would nearly be as successful. Certainly, at least a finalist for hack of the year!

Love it!!!!!!! Great execution! I’m going to make the same one, but with brown leather!

I saw some awesome trunk bars in a somewhat expensive furniture store and i fell in love with them. There was also a smaller trunk that acted as a hidden office, complete with bench :) since they were soooo out of my price range i immediately thought IKEA HACK!!! But unfortunately i didnt get a chance to take pictures of the different bars on the store so i had an idea how to cut the shelves and assemble, but this one is cool too. I do intend on visiting the store again and snap some shots, they cant arrest me for inspiration can they? :) if anyone else makes this, please post pics!! btw, the trunks i saw were more “aged”, had a more vintage look to them, darker wood and dark leather and vintage locks but this one looks cool also, more modern and still a bit old style :) congrats!!!

I’ve seen this done with painted wood paneling applied to the exterior and I liked that a great deal. The leather upholstery is just a whole added level of awesome. Kudos!

I am definitely making this! But, not as a bar.. I’m going to keep it as bookcases, and just make a closing bookcase trunk for my son’s room. I think I’ll do the outside in a fun and funky fabric to match my son’s personality. ^_^

    Awesome idea!
