Lack goes Vintage
Materials: Lack Coffee table (birch effect), stain, paint in different colors, clear paint, sand paper
Description: Our Lack table didn't match the rest of our furniture anymore, so I looked for an idea to fit in.
First I sanded the thin layer of clear paint from the table, hoping to find at least a little bit of something what is called wood, plywood or similar. I don't know what I found, but the stain in the color cherry moved in and I could go on painting the table in stripes with paint in different colors.
After this was done and the paint dry, I sanded the table again until it had the used look I wanted. Last I covered the table with clear paint to protect the spots where the lacquer was gone and the stain came through.

Great job! Goes perfectly now and looks just like real wood. :)
ReplyDeleteI just wonder how you sand it? You have the equipment for it or whats the trick? :D thanks
DeleteThanks :D I just used sandpaper to sand the table.
DeleteThe stain idea was pretty good, and in a few small spots it looks great, but the striping takes a lot away from the effect in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteAt a distance it looks interesting, but the illusion doesn't hold up.
Once I saw a table made of recycled teak wood in a furniture store that had this striped design and found it very beautiful. I tried to recreate this effect on the Lack table, but no doubt this is not an easy thing to do on a non-wood table.
DeleteI think the plastic wheels are at odds with the vintage look you are going for.
ReplyDeleteI know. But since the table had wheels before the change and they have proven to be very convenient (it's our entertainment room table) I decided not to change it. Maybe I find wheels that go with vintage someday.
Deletelooks great...just my style also!
