Kitchen Peninsula
Materials: Akurum base & wall cabinets, high gloss Abstrakt doors & panels
Description: IKEA HACK 1: Changing an underused bar area into a multi-functional peninsula: Now this place serves as a prep-area for cooking (we only have a little pantry-style kitchen), and a food serving station (breakfast/happy hour/ buffet style dining).
That's Bobby with our bar area in the background. Tiles are already removed. Photo below gives you an idea about the size of the area. We wanted to use all the area for cabinets. No more bar stools sitting at the edge & more space for my linens.
However, we could not place base cabinets back-to-back because of lack of space. Therefore we used upper cabinets back to the base cabinets the front side of our peninsula. Cabinets were screwed together back to back, side to side & to the wall.
To hide the cabinet seems we got the high gloss finish panel ( it also matched our high gloss finished doors) & saw it to match. Same with toe kicks. Topped the peninsula with granite. Looks great.
Cabinets used: Base cabinets :4 Akurum/ 3 drawers: wall cabinets: 4 wall cabinets. All doors. Sides & toe kicks Abstrakt high gloss white. Strecket handles.

Where is that floral art in the top picture from?
ReplyDeleteYes, that's the same thing I wanted to know! It's fantastic!
DeleteWhere's the hack???
ReplyDeleteI see nothing more than Akurum kitchen cabinets used for their intended purpose.
Maybe you should read it, then. The hacker used wall cabinets instead of base cabinets to save space.
ReplyDeleteFYI: wall cabinets can indeed be used as base cabinets and there's nothing special about that. The official Ikea planner software itself has offered this as an option since forever...
ReplyDeleteI even have them on a section of my own 5-year old Ikea kitchen.
Nice color combinations
ReplyDeleteI have a question about the Sniglar Changing table, and I would be very happy for an answer :-):
ReplyDeleteCAn you fit 2 drawers under the table? Did you try?
Siri
that's awesome!
ReplyDeleteand where did you get the stools from?
Nice post showing different types of cabinets and how they can be used as and when required.
ReplyDeleteI also don't see the hack in this. Ikea even has an example of an island using upper cabinets on their site. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/kitchen/tools/kitchen_rooms_ideas/#/20121_kirs03b_01
ReplyDeleteIs that a print in the frame or an embroidery! It is gorgeous anyway!AriadnefromGreece!
ReplyDeleteThe hack is the Gucci scarf used as a picture!:-)
ReplyDeleteReally updated the area and added space. Looks great!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great picture of Bobby but there are no pictures of the cabinets from the front, which I would have liked to see. Agree it is probably not a hack or a repurpose, but it still lolls nice.
ReplyDeleteNu, for me it was a brand-new hack. I even had to convince Bobby that wall cabinets can be used as bases. I never saw anything like it on a hack nor on an official Ikea side.
ReplyDeleteWhatever: the base cabinets of the peninsula are all drawers, fitted for my stuff. the (outside) wall cabinets are all doors & shelves, no drawers possible.
I don't do Gucci. My pic is a hand-painted silk shawl that I bought last year in Florence. Bobby did the mounting. A pain in the lower back bc silk is never straight. The artists have a great web side too:
Alfreda e manuela evangelisti, borgo dei greci 33r, firence, Italy
Re: Barstools, Bobby got them in Ft. Lauderdale, some place at the junction of US1 & Sunrise.
