Ikea Pax Tonnes Asian-inspired cherry blossom designed by Mia Gammelgaard. Hacked by Chris and Polly.

Materials: Ikea Pax Tonnes Sliding Doors, White.

Description: Ikea Pax Tonnes Hacked Closet. Here is the built-in closet project we undertook based on a hack we saw on the IKEA Hackers.

I think it turned out rather nicely.

Christopher built a shelf to hold the top tracks and lights for the wardrobe. The bottom tracks are secured to a 2×4 installed crown facing up. The width of the doors left a little gap which Chris closed up with a piece of pine. Chris has an excellent write-up on how the sliding door closet was hacked in his new home. Hop over to his blog for step by step instructions on how to hack a sliding door closet. While you’re at it, check out Mia Gammelgaard too, the designer for the Pax Tonnes, Trofast system, Tobo, Samla and many others. Chances are, you may already own a piece of her designs.  ~ Jules

    I don’t get how it’s hacked?

The before shot has different trim on the doorways and different backgrounds beyond the doorways (a flat wall vs. a corner with another doorway).

Perhaps the photos do not illustrate the pre-existing condition and the project fully. However, it appears that you had well-crafted, beautiful cabinetry, wood trim and parquet floors, and you ripped them out to replace with plastic, and plain wood trim and floors.

the original doors were more beautiful… you could refurbished them

It has not been just the small commercial printers that have felt the pinch however. Mid-size and large printers have felt the heat. Even the commercial newsgroups and publishers have lost a lot of business to the computer industry.
