The perfect childseat

Materials: 2 step stools IKEA BEKVÄM

Description:
My granddaughter is 18 months and she needed a chair to sit when she comes to visit, but I didn't really feel like spending a lot of money for it.. What I did then was buying 2 step stools BEKVÄM. I built one according to the instructions to create the base of the chair.

Then I cut the sides of the other step stool at 15 cm to create the armchairs and used the first step to create the back of the chair (you will need to cut it slightly otherwise it is too wide). The sides of the step stool are a bit wider than the top, so I added a little piece in the back (still from the pieces of BEKVÄM) to solve the problem. Add some paint, two pieces of foam and some cute textile and you get the perfect chair for less than 30 €. What to do with all the leftover from the step stools? A small stool to use in the bathroom!

  1. it looks great!
I am just wondering about the stability of the stool.
Is there no risk of tipping?

    kind regards

  3. It does look fab but I have to agree with the above post; all the weight will be on the back legs? IKEA do a fab cheap plastic chair for about 10gbp we use at the grandparents and my youngest is 2.
It is a great idea though and does look lovely x

    1. Thanks! I must say it is super stable.. Plus because of the armchairs and the wide first step it is much easier for smaller kids to step on by themselves and sit comfortably. My granddaughter is 18 months and she loves it :)

    2. I can vouch for the stability of this particular Ikea stool...I have been using one for 3 yrs and its stable as rock.

I love this idea. Awesome thought. I would love it if the seat cushion is removable and one is able to use the handle slot to move the seat/stool.

    3. The cushion is simply standing on the chair to make it a bit taller and therefore more suited for smaller kids, but it is super easy to remove in order to use the handle slot as suggested :)
