Description: This is an idea from this laptop stand hack. I just find a cheaper way to finish a laptop stand. Just need a screw driver and 4 screws to finish it. It looks cool, too. The total cost is NT$242 (US$8). Very cheap.

I dunno about this..... the way my laptop is made, those brackets to support the bottom of the laptop would cover the most important vent holes.
ReplyDeleteyou could cut the bits from the lycka to adjust the width so it would block anything. kinda wondering how the lycka is attached to the ekby valter brakets. LH suggested glue, but I think something stronger is in order, no?

ReplyDeleteDon't know, but seems to me any pant hanger would work. They are available in stores like Target or Walmart. Good Luck!
DeleteI liked this hack so I went to IKEA today to purchase the necessary items. I ended up buying the larger 11" EKBY VALTER bracket in birch which works well with my 17" laptop. Since the LYCKA pants hanger is discontinued, I went with the BUMERANG pants hanger which matches the birch brackets perfectly. I used screws to attached the BUMERANG pieces to the brackets as pictured on the post. I decided to countersink the screws for the RULL knobs since I wanted the bottom surface to be flat. However in doing so the RULL knobs would not tighten completely. This was easily solved with the addition of a small washer between the knob and the bracket. It turned out very well and only took me about 20 minutes to complete.

ReplyDeleteHi everyone, I made this laptop stand today with a slight variation. I also used two 11" EKBY VALTER brackets in birch. I bought the small blue LEGITIM chopping board, placed across the diagonal beams as a surface for the laptop to rest on. It was sturdy enough with just the chopping board attached to the brackets. I then used two of the wooden slats (piled on top of each other to make it 2x as thick) from the BUMERANG pants hanger to put a horizontal beam along the bottom on the slanted surface for the bottom of my laptop to rest against. This was better for me than putting two pegs on the bottom because I was able to raise my laptop (lenovo U410) up farther on the slope.
ReplyDeleteOne piece of advice is to use #4 or #6 type screws. I used #4 1" screws. First I tried using #10 1" screws but they were too thick and split the wood piece from the hanger.
