Billy hanging on the wall
Materials: Billy 40x106 cm, Billy 80x106 cm, Metalbar
Description: I hung up two small Billy bookcases (40x106 cm and 80x106 cm) onto the wall. First I cut of the bottom part. Then I fixed a metal bar to the back of the side parts. I used 4 screws for each side. The metal bar is fixed such that part of it is sticking out. This part is used to fix the bookcase onto the wall with 2 screws on each side. The bookcases are hanging up side down, so you can't see the part where I cut of the bottom.
Now there is room beneath for a desk.
See more of the Billy hung from the wall.

Billy shelves aren't made from solid wood so the "side parts" aren't really good for screwing into. Don't put heavy stuff onto your shelves as I fear that too much weight will simply rip the four screws out from the sides.
ReplyDeleteIt looks quite stable for now even full of books. I used 5 cm long screws. There are 8 screws on one Billy. The 80 cm wide Billy weights 30 kg. With books inside I guess not more than 80 kg. That would be 10 kg per screw. I hope that's enough.
