Materials: PAX DRAMMEN, RIBBA, Mounting screws
Description: While browsing the as-is section at Ikea, I found a few Pax Drammen frosted glass sliding doors and marked down drawer pulls. After seeing the Torsby table used as a dry erase board, I decided to do something similar with this.
1 x PAX DRAMMEN Frosted Glass sliding door $9.99 (as-is section, discontinued?)
1 x Drawer pull $0.99 (not sure of the name, but could be substituted with a RIBBA photo rail)
4 x Drywall mounting screws (various sizes)
Various tools (level, tape measure, drill)
A friend
The PAX door has 3 holes for the hinges, I decided to hang it from the 2 outer holes (6 feet apart). Since the door only weighs 21 pounds, I did without stud mounting.
The end result is a uniquely shaped dry erase board.

ReplyDeleteBut I was wondering (sorry if this is a dumb question) -- Do you need to coat the glass with anything or do dry erase type markers already erase well off all glass? Thanks!
Not the maker, but I know from experience that yes, dry erase markers work wonderfully on glass. I also used to use them on a fridge (wet ones too) but I made sure to mark in a corner in the back first in that case. The problems you end up with a normal dry erase board vs a glass one won't happen either (aka after some use, esp if someone cleans it wrong, it because slightly porous, never to be pristine again)

DeleteSome people were saying that since it's glass, you can even use permanent markers, such as Sharpie type pens.
DeleteI tested this claim a moment ago on my bedroom mirror.
It's true. Even permanent markers are usable on glass. They come right off with a damp cloth.

I love this idea and found the same Rubrik door in the as is section. Problem is, how do you hang it on the wall securely?

ReplyDeleteA similar example is "high end gaming mousepads" that cost 60 dollars!
Some smart PC users have been testing out plastic cutting pads and finding that they work every bit as well, for less than 10 dollars a piece.
