Description: 2 girls sharing a flat = many shoes
So many that finding a cheap, good looking and roomy storage solution was difficult.
I then came up with this very simple hack:
- get an EXPEDIT shelf (4x4 in our case)
- build it
- get an ENJE roller blind (140cm)
- fix the ENJE blind on the top of the EXPEDIT
- put all your shoes inside
- close the blind

ReplyDeleteI agree for tidying up and it could be easily solved by some divider of expedit for the shorter shoes:

Looks nice. What would be even more practical would be to mount the roller blind upside down. Iow have the roll at the lower edge and have two hooks at the top to hold the blind up when closed. Reason - it's much more hassle to pull a blind down to the floor to close it than to pull it up from the floor and hook it at the top. Same goes for opening - when mounted normally, you have to first pull down a little bit more to start the roll-up mechanism. Which is hard to do when the blind already almost touches the floor. Much easier when the end of the blind is on top.

ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I think the purpose of this hack is to show how "un-tidy" items can be "hidden" from view. Therefore, tidying up the shoes stored in the expedit prior to taking a photo defeats the purpose of their hack - which is wonderful.
Second, thank you for such a great idea and also the idea of mounting the blind on the bottom instead of the top.
All in all, this is a great idea that I will consider when re-doing my craft/guest room.
And, to those who think the storage should have been straightened up prior to taking the photo might want to slow down and consider what " 2 girls sharing a flat" are trying to show all of us - a way that they found for hiding their shoes from public viewing in an inexpensive way.
Hi Commenter number 8, thank you very much for your appreciative comments. Indeed, I did not want to provide a super tidy photo for the hack as it is meant to reflect the reality of shoe storage (which we all know can be a very messy business ;)

I am not one to make comments on what I see on various blogs (maybe 3 times in the last 3-4 years) but some of the comments here really bothered me that I just had to make a comment.
