Besta Goes Mod
Materials: Besta bench unit in walnut, Ikea Rull knob, 4-8" round tapered table legs & 4 steel angled top plates (ordered from Home Depot), Minwax wood stain in Dark Walnut, vinyl wall decals in Matte White
Description:
- I started with a Besta unit in walnut color and took off the plastic feet that came with it.
- Order the legs in whatever length you require, they start at 4" and go up from there. The steel top plates come in angled or straight options, depending on the look you desire. For this project I chose 8" legs at an angle. These are both found at Home Depot's website and are very reasonably priced, about $20 total.
- Stain the wood legs, taping off the silver end caps and add a coat of satin poly if desired. This look only took one coat of stain, so simple! The color match is EXACT if you use Minwax Dark Walnut stain.
- Turn the furniture upside down and screw in the leg brackets. I played around with the placement a little, just depends on what appeals to your eye.
- Add any vinyl wall decals you like. (This step is optional obviously, but it makes a big impact.) I chose Whispy Sea Grass from Dali Decals for my look. I even carried the decals from the cabinet front up onto the top of the piece to help it seem more organic.
- Lastly, I added a simple knob to the cabinet door to enhance the mid century effect.
I'm very pleased with the outcome of this project and so glad I didn't have to buy a new piece of furniture just to raise the height of my TV. I also included photos of a matching piece I'm using as an end table next to my sofa. It started out as an Engan two-drawer chest and I added 4" legs to it.

Wow so sophisticated.
ReplyDeleteTalk about cool designs...this looks great! Very creative addition to something that was so simplistic before. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGreat, where did you get the legs for them?
ReplyDeleteThe article mentioned Home Depot's website. I imagine you could find them at pretty much any big box hardware store.
DeleteLooking very nice, good job! :)
ReplyDeletewhere did you get the wall decals from? is there a certain kind you have to buy? is there a variety of colors? i too am looking to dress up some ikea furniture!
ReplyDeleteyours looks wonderful!
Wow, very impressed. It looks great!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't the Bestå bench unit have six legs, is it a problem to remove the two in the middle? I'm thinking in terms of holding the weight of the tv. Cause this looks awesome and I'd love to do something similar myself but our tv is heeaavyyyy!
ReplyDeleteSimply awsome!
ReplyDeleteI like this 60's retro look completed with the legs, the details are amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite hacks I've seen here!
ReplyDeleteLove this, I always feel that furniture looks so "heavy" when its just sitting on the floor without legs (that sounds crazy, I'm sure, haha). Love this simple and cheap fix :)
