Materials: Vika Veine, Vika Lage, Sandby, low voltage downlights, mirror, plastic trays, Velcro strips
Description: I really wanted a dressing table for all my girly things...but all the ones in the stores were very old fashioned!
Recently married, all our furniture is pretty new and in a modern chocolate brown, so I wanted something to suit.
Finally, after much Googling...I came up with this design.
- Vika Veine desktop in brown
- Vika Lage legs in chrome
- Sandby seat in white
- Lights from hardware store
- Plastic trays, mirror and Velcro strips from department/discount stores
My husband lovingly put it all together and I absolutely love it!!! The mirror and lights are stuck on using Velcro strips. It sticks perfectly to the felt.
We left the felt pockets (on the right) for my brushes which works really well.
There is a powerboard tucked inside so I can plug in my hairdryer / straightener (hair stuff stored in the Sandby seat).
I love how everything is laid out in front of me...and then can be all hidden away in a flash. The seat perfectly tucks under the table.
The only other thing I would like to do is hide the peeking white cables (from the lights). Still thinking about that one...

ReplyDeleteWow! Awesome dressing table. You could perhaps try to disguise the cables with black fabric, felt or something. Or paint them black?

ReplyDeleteDo you know if your husband had any problems with screwing in the legs? I just got one of these, and I'm trying to figure out if I should take a power drill to the darn thing.
ReplyDeleteHe tried using the power drill but it was too big and he couldn't get close enough because the leg got in the way. He manually screwed them in by hand.

ReplyDeleteThe Vika Veine has been around for at least a year now, I have been saving up do this same project for my fiancee as a surprise gift, only to find out that 3 out of the 4 IKEAS in our NY 40 mile range stopped carrying it :(, but still one of them has it! I will post pictures when I make it this weekend!

Do you remember if the side panels had identical holes? I just got this and am wondering if one of my side panels is defective. It has two holes on the top but zero holes on the bottom(the tan side.) (The other side panel has two holes on the top and four holes on the underside.) In case mine is defective, is this something I can take a drill to or do I need to take it back since I'd be drilling 4 new holes entirely?

Thank you so much for sharing your vanity hack! I recently inherited a beautiful antique dressing table from my grandmother. My challenge is adding lights around the table without taking away from the antique charm. I don't like regular 'makeup mirrors', they dont provide enough light! Your post inspired my solution. I am going to mount long led strips on a base with hinges from the back sides of the mirror-I will be able to reach around each side and pull the lights out when I need to use them, then tuck them away when done.
