Materials: Faktum Nexus, Perfekt Nexus
Description: Initially we didn't plan for a two-storey house, but when we came up with the definitive plan, I decided that we should use the space under the stairs.
As we placed the kitchen by the stairs, I measured and made sketches and measured again, before we went to IKEA and bought the cabinets we needed.
And as we plan to live here long I decided to put the dishwasher in a comfortable height. The box under it got rather low, so there we store trays and cutting boards.

Fantastic use of space
ReplyDeleteI love the clever idea of sitting the Faktum units slightly forward of the structural stair wall and using plasterboard and plaster to create a false wall to match the outlines of the Faktum units at the front. A brilliant way to maximise storage without having to have weird-shaped doors.
ReplyDeleteThe raised worktop at the back of the sink/hob/worktop and over the dishwasher and the glass brick below look stunning and practical too. Just high enough to hide the main work surfaces from the dining room, but with enough depth on top to be useful for plates etc on their way to/from the dining room. The glass blocks no doubt let enough light through to stop the worktop from being too dark to use comfortably without additional lighting too, as well as looking great.
This is a really well thought out design.
P.S. If you don't think this is a hack, you haven't spotted how much cutting of the rear section of some of the Faktum cabinets has been done (in the second picture) to fit them under the stairs.

DeleteWe totally love this kitchen and I´m glad that I took time to measure and do sketches over the kitchen several times to make it as practical as possible.
The absolute best parts of our house is definitely the kitchen and the laundry room :-)

That kitchen is s amazeballs! OP- please follow up and tell us how having the stove in the center of the room affects the living area, like, burnt food, smelly cooking and noise levels.

The hood has a very strong engine which is placed on our roof.

We (I) have tried to think of everything when we (I) planned our house.
I vacuumed the internet and magazines during the time of 3 years it took to get this project finished.
I had the design and sketching responsibility and my husband took care of the technic things like electricity and heating system .
I think we came up with a great result :-)

DeleteHalf the battle with an Ikea kitchen is fitting it into the space, giving it a custom look... and you've totally done this embedding it right in the wall and under the stairs! Really nice job.
