Materials: Gulliver Crib, 8" wide boards, screws
Description: 1. Disassemble the crib, saving the bottom board.
2. Cut 8" wide board to length for the sides of the former crib base.
3. Screw the boards to the crib base.
4. Sand everything completely smooth--you don't want your little one to get splinters now, do you?
5. Dust off and finish by rubbing the wood with mineral oil.
6. Insert crib mattress and enjoy your new toddler bed!

This doesn't look very comfortable - the edge around the mattress should be much lower than the mattress itself.
ReplyDeleteHaving the edge up just a little bit like that keeps the toddler from rolling out.
DeleteThe bed is on the floor, that means that there is no way for the matras to air properly. Be careful that the matras doesn't get mold and stuff. It's a good idea, but I would put some legs under it, small one's at least.
ReplyDeleteThe bed doesn't have slats anyway, so adding height wouldn't make any difference to the aeration of the mattress.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's because it's on the second floor and we live in a (relatively) dry climate, but I've never had a problem with mold. And our (grown-up sized) mattress and boxed springs have been on the floor for years. (We have low ceilings upstairs, so it just makes everything more proportionate.)
