Materials: LEKMAN Box x2 - Normal computer build items
Description: I was needing some place to put my windows home server that was out of the way, and just putting the case on the EXPEDIT shelf I had did not look good plus there are very few computer cases, if any that will fit in the space. So one day I decided to gut my home server and mount everything in the LEKMAN box.
I mounted the hard drives on the left side and the power supply and DVD drive in the bottom for stability. Since I am not using a high power CPU hence no need of a real heavy CPU cooler I mounted the Main Board on the right. Still need to add some LED's but the holes are already there so I will do that later.
I used drill bits and files designed for plastic, and made sure to go slow, wanted to cut/drill not melt. After getting everything mounted and up and going I did not like having a monitor on another shelf so I found a 10" LCD monitor and pulled the casing off of it and mounted it to the front. I made sure to find one that was 12v so it could run off the computer power supply. Also mounted a small USB hub under the monitor for KB and Mouse when needed. this worked great for a few months then I found the need to add more storage. So a second LEKMAN box holds a USB hub and 7 USB drives with a power strip.

DeleteI understood both his English and his meaning just fine. Please only post something if it is helpful. Whining about a description someone posted about their Ikea hack is not only unhelpful, it is discourteous.
DeleteYes the English is quite awkward. However, the more important thing is that the computer is not longer shielded! It will act as a wide range radio emitter!

I am very good at computers, don't worry for me. I even have a master degree in IT. It was the number one reason to look at this hack. I was complaining of his English not the vocabulary and gramar. "I was needing"? Common!

Hmm, I live in germany and even I think his english sounds very strange. Yes, I understood what he wrote but the author is from Oklahoma. That is, as far as I know, located in the good old USA. And his name does not sound like he has freshly immigrated form India. (or is he the famous 'Dave-Rob-Bob-Bill-Joe' from the hotline?) So please...

Actually, there's nothing wrong with the English, it just needs quite a few ","'s here and there to help with the flow of the story.
ReplyDeleteThe nice shiny boxes make a change from the usual PC casings, but I do agree with all the warning advice given here regarding shielding.
Why even go there? can't belive all the assholes around here complaining about language. This is a global website, which means it's read and posted to from around the world. No matter if it said bob or rob or will or whateverhisname from bumsville idaho doesn't make it any more okay to go on and on about language. If you can't understand it, either learn to read or fuck off.
ReplyDeleteGreat hack OP, I've been contemplating doing something similar around a LEKMAN as A HTPC/Media Center in my 4x4 EXPEDIT. Just slowly gathering up the parts that i need to complete. as for the haters and TROLLS shielding EMI would only affect devices within a few feet so not a great worry, grounding would be the only real issue and as PSU's have ground protection

There is noting to worry about not even static build up it is grounded after all.
There is nothing wrong with his English. He wrote the article the way people speak. This isn't an English composition article, it's a hack.
